Service and price

In my 2 years of being in Colombia receiving good service isn't an often happening experience. Today I got a break. I needed some help with software issues and had a Tec visit my house. 20K total. 10 for the service call, 10 for installing 2 virus programs, fix my problem, intall my software and some maintenance and some instruction. That's a great deal to me for 20K.

Good for you! Your story reminded me of what happened to my dad when he first moved back to Cali he would go to the panaderia to get breakfast in the morning. The first few days he saw that even if he was first in "line" the ones to get waited on first would be the loud mouths. He was starting to get fed-up so the next time it happened he spoke to the counter person which was completely futile. Finally, he got pissed off and got louder than the next "loud mouth" and this time the owner happened to be there. Now everyone lines up in an orderly fashion to get their pandebono.

coke as in the powder or as in the drink? Yep, the price of some of the services here can be cheap.

Misleading title. I thought we were going to hear how much you paid for full service.

Lowell,
Be a bit careful.... some of those tech guys actually put viruses on your computer that pop up a month or two later.... so you end up calling them again! Not all but some do. Tech stuff like that is so cheap here. You can buy any program for 5,000 COP if you want (but watch out for the bugs............) Was the antivirus NOD32? really good

Hope your credit information is not stored in the computer. Hope you don't bank online. STAY off the internet.

Lowell says on Aug 17, 2007, 07:25:

Bufalo, He installed, NOD 32, Ad-Aware and spybot. Computer 5 yrs old and may have him build a new one later, also he's the distributor for my Camcorder, lives 5 minutes walking distance away and knows there's some real bad asses on my wife's side of the family. Credit? I have no stinking credit. After a bad accident in the States I had to declare I was bankrupt.

chrispej, Who do you suggest that I use when I need service?

Alfred E. Newman. "What. Me Worry?"

My 3,000 peso watch repair was good value. This guy had professional training and tools, a shopfront in the Centro Comercial, and spent a good few minutes with the watch apart.

And I got a key cut yesterday for 2k pesos. Very reasonable.

que nota!

"Once you go MAC you never go back"

Been there, done that, came back. I used to be a bit of a Mac guy, but they are too limiting for me. Macs are great for non-techies, but are pretty much useless for programmers like me. Besides, I hate the OSX interface. The old Mac OS interface was better and more simple. It is nice that they based OSX on a UNIX variant.

I use PCs and never run into trouble. If you want a safe Windows browsing experience, try using Firefox with the Ad Blocker Plus and NoScript add-ons.

Wow, that's the greatest I ever heard on this site! :-) Typical Microcrap...
Are you programming in what? Visual Basic? ASP?
No, really. If you're developing something for the windows platform and interface (i.e. using Windows SDK) I could agree (although now you can run a better windows on the Intel chip of an Apple machine).
Whatever else you're doing (web development, java, SERIOUS system administration, etc.), no doubt you'd better use a Mac.
Ok... we're out of scope here...
Noooo, I promised myself I would never fall into talking about that shit again!!!! :-(
