Separation of Bodies

To continue with the series of articles about the forms to end the marriage here in Colombia, today I will show you the last option. Its name is Separation of Bodies and it is legal tool used to suspense the union of the couple without finishing the link.

The causes are the same than for a divorce but the time to stay separated can be forever (hoping to reconsider the decision to not get divorce) or temporal, which is maximum one year. For the last option, the law presumes that after the period, the couple has decided to live together again.

Things to do in order to fill the petition for the separation of bodies

1. Define Alimony between the couple and their children.
2. Define custody of kids and visit regimen

The conclusion is that separations of bodies DO NOT END the marriage but it stops the community of life between the couple. About the marital society, it is dissolved except if the petitioners ask to the judge the desire to continue with it.
