Sending flowers to Medellin

I did a search on this forum and found a few references - http://www.flowerstocolombia.com and http://flora2000.com - and a few more by searching google - http://www.world-florists.com and several others - but they all seem ridiculously expensive. I know that a huge portion of the flowers sold here in the US are actually grown in Colombia, and yet it costs more money to send flowers to Colombia via those two sites than it would cost me to send flowers in the US or Canada via FTD or 1800flowers.com. At minimum for roses, lilies or any generic bouquet it's $50+, and another $15 for shipping. Does that not seem nuts to you?

I haven't purchased flowers in person in Colombia, but I have a sneaking suspicion that if I walked into a shop in Medellin and bought a dozen lilies it'd run me closer to 25000 COP ($10 USD) than 200,000 COP ($85 USD), which is the cost through any of those web sites. It's not that I'm cheap, but it ticks me off thinking that 90% of the cost is profit for the web site company, and 10% goes to the actual florist in Colombia.

Does anyone have any other suggestions on how I can send flowers? I'm really not looking to make it a one time thing or I wouldn't worry - my girlfriend loves flowers, and I like sending random gifts for no real reason :)

Thanks in advance,
Barry

Re: Flowers
Best bet is to call a local florist directly (if you can manage enough Spanish). I could not find any small local shops over the web, so my last trip I brought home a phone book with me (though not for Medellin). See if you can find someone with a local phone book. Or who knows, maybe the city directory is online by now.

Was that Valentine's day in Colombia or Feb. 14? If it was Feb. 14 I doubt that they were swamped in Colombia.

Thanks Mario Thanks for the kind words Mario, (and for the order)

Ubu must not have read the website at www.FlowersToColombia.com, we have roses from $22.49 (after a 10% dicount we are giving to celebrate our 10th year) and the delivery is FREE.

As for Valentines day Feb. 14th, we delivered over 200 orders throughout the country.

We are actually based in Bogota, we do however have a Miami No. that rings directly into Bogota.

Thanks again.

Best Wishes,
Doug
