I did a search on this forum and found a few references - http://www.flowerstocolombia.com and http://flora2000.com - and a few more by searching google - http://www.world-florists.com and several others - but they all seem ridiculously expensive. I know that a huge portion of the flowers sold here in the US are actually grown in Colombia, and yet it costs more money to send flowers to Colombia via those two sites than it would cost me to send flowers in the US or Canada via FTD or 1800flowers.com. At minimum for roses, lilies or any generic bouquet it's $50+, and another $15 for shipping. Does that not seem nuts to you?
I haven't purchased flowers in person in Colombia, but I have a sneaking suspicion that if I walked into a shop in Medellin and bought a dozen lilies it'd run me closer to 25000 COP ($10 USD) than 200,000 COP ($85 USD), which is the cost through any of those web sites. It's not that I'm cheap, but it ticks me off thinking that 90% of the cost is profit for the web site company, and 10% goes to the actual florist in Colombia.
Does anyone have any other suggestions on how I can send flowers? I'm really not looking to make it a one time thing or I wouldn't worry - my girlfriend loves flowers, and I like sending random gifts for no real reason :)
Thanks in advance,
Barry
