Tip: if you're an american citizen living abroad, taxplanner cpa has great information about taxes for expats. They have a for-pay service, but you get what you pay for. Highly recommended, check out their site if you have any questions about taxes and living abroad.

Semaforo Tricks

A couple of months ago I was stopped a t a traffic light on Paso Ancho (Cali) and a guy in a yellow hard hat came up to the window and siad he was on a job for Emcali but didn´t have the change handy for a bottle of gaseosa. I can´t remember but I think I gave him some (was with novia). Today I´m on Simon Bolivar stopped ten cars back at the stop light and I see the same guy. He´s got his yellow hard hat under arm, rubber boots and a length of bright yellow (official looking) rope dangling from his waste and he´s going from car window to car window. I´m not well traveled but I suspect the street (semaforo) hustlers of Cali have no equal when it comes to inventiveness. An aside: I was sitting with a girl last night in the movies watching El Vuelco Del Cangrejo and she asked me "¿Hay muchos ladrones alla (en la costa pacifica)?" I said ther are muchos ladrones everywhere in Colombia (like she didn´t already know that and is probobly one of them).

I dunno...the guys in Medellin just go from car to car waving a hat are pretty crafty. (and original) HA!

Just because you have been to Colombia, that does NOT mean that you are anywhere near an expert on the place. Sorry. Truth hurts.

They all have a lot of imagination, some say they just need some change to pay the bus, others ask for money for they medical treatment or to buy drugs that they supposedly really need and even carry a medical receipt.... the rule of thumb for me is to keep my window close and not to give my money to any of those lazy b**.

Take the red pill and I show you how deep the rabbit-hole goes

It´s a good portrait of the people in the part of Colombia but very low key. Don´t expect any action or anything unexpected.
