Just got back to the USA from a trip to Medellin and fell in love with the city so much that I want to buy a place there. I need help finding a place, preferably in the El Poblado area since I am familiar with it. Looking for a nice luxury apartment with nice views and to pick it up preconstruction or if already constructed then one that has not been lived in at a nice price. Can anyone point me to the right direction? It's been a little difficult conducting a search on the internet from the states.

nine inch nails says on Sep 20, 2007, 06:45: It's difficult even if you are there feet on the ground in Medellin. Finding a new home can be one of the most time consuming and challenging experiences in a lifetime but also one of the most rewarding. Best advice I can give is don't just buy a place to buy a place. Do all the requisite research before and take enough time to find your place. I searched all over south Florida (Miami on up to West Palm) for over a year going out at least every other weekend and some weeknights before finding a great place. It proly will take less time if you will settle in the valle de Medello since not nearly as much terrain to cover. Hardest part to me in Medallo was just getting around Poblado and Envigado to see the neighborhoods. Hired my favorite taxi driver to take me on a general tour but just barely scratched the surface of Envigado. Need more time on the ground!!!!!! "They know nothing, they know nothing." J. SFJohn says on Sep 20, 2007, 23:36: I also fell in love with Medellin on a recent visit, and I spent two weeks last month looking at apartments to buy in Poblado. The frustrating thing for me, coming from the US, is that there is no central location where all the properties for sale are listed. Here most cities have an online MLS (Multiple Listing Service) website and pretty much every property for sale is listed with photos and info. That does not exist in Medellin.

tejasmarcos says on Sep 21, 2007, 13:44: sfjohn - most of the agents here work in a co-op manner. if a sale is made, they all take a piece. if you want to deal direct with the owner/priciple, you may need to start looking at new properties. i know some folks at Optima (optima.com.co) that may be able to assist. trying to walk a straight line on sour mash and cheap wine... 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

Robert Jorge says on Sep 22, 2007, 21:51: Interesting. Not one person walking down the street. No kids playing outside. Looks like an upscale neighborhood in the US. If I could afford it, I wouldn't want to live in that barrio. BEWARE of gold diggers. 0 funny, 0 helpful. |
