Security Camera For Retail Store in Colombia

Is there an inexpensive camera which can be hooked up in a new retail store in Colombia and beamed back to the US or Colombian apartment for real time viewing on my PC or other monitor?

I see stories about baby sitting cams and stuff but don't know anything about them.

Anyone know about this?

Yes there is...it is a simple setup of a camera with software. Mount it, plug it in, run it on the computer in house and you're all set. Need an internet connection on both ends, and someone reliable to work for you who won't shut it off.

There are a TON of options as to the brand, features and costs. Will take a lot of research to find what it good for you.

There are diffent kind of settings, depending on your requirements a camera can be recommended, there are IP cameras that do not require a local pc to be on, there are dvr cards wich require a local computer to be on. For the not too expensive camera I would suggest Linksys or Axis cameras.

If you require more information sent me a PM.

A neighbor of mine who has a Business 3 blocks from Home hooked up this system to his Home Computer with cameras at the business. Sad thing is, in the wee morning hours when no one was watching the Cameras, theives came in and lifted Steel Plates worth $25,000 from the front dock area. System is great as long as SOMONE is monitoring the System.

Lipper,

Where in Colombia, I am meeting my tech guy to buy two cameras on Tuesday, to set up for me in Medellin.

I mentioned it to him about a month ago, he said no problem, I would just need to get connected up to a local wireless company, for viewing in the Medellin area.

miamimike,

Depends on what you want to use them for, three quick reasons:

1. To put thieves off.
2 To make sure that the employees are telling the truth.
3 If something goes missing, you can then look back and try and find who.

For outside thieves a alarm system etc is required in my view.

Although there is NO possibilty of 100 % security, some is better than none.

I agree, the Cameras are a deterent but not 100% foolproof as in my neighbor's case. Most of the time they have heavy duty Chains on items like this! Guess they were caught off guard due to the massive weight of these items. Our Miami theives are creative. I think one of these would be nice in your home/condo so you could monitor your place while you are away. We have cameras in our Condo Complex and they have worked well, still we have some dummies who pull stuff in full view! Smile you are Candid Camera. Its amazing the stuff you find out out about people in reviewing these cameras when reviewing the film for an entirely different subject.

Thanks all.

I'm not so much security concerned as you say that has its own challenges.

I just want to watch the store from my apartment or when I'm traveling. I want to see if my employee closes the doors early or arrives late. I want to see people walking around. If my employees friends are visiting every 20 minutes or she is eating McDonalds on the counter. I want to be a fly on the wall and I want my employee to know it!

If a simple baby sitter cam will do the trick, I'm good with that. I won't be recording. Just watching.

Any inexpensive cams, or things out there? I just have no clue so thought I'd ask for advice from anyone who has used this form of camera's.

Thanks
