Overland security between Medellin / Cartegena / Santa Marta

Just curious if anyone's heard of trouble on the Medellin / Cartegena road lately ?

Also, a month or two ago, there were reports of guerilla activity between Santa Marta and Parque Tayrona... any more news ?

I'm planning on going from Medellin to Cartegena overland, then from Cartegena to Parque Tayrona.. maybe as far as Riohacha... just wondering if we should risk it.

Medellin -> Cartagena is fine. Cartagena to Parque Tayrona is also fine. Check once you get to Santa Marta/Taganga about the current situation in Tayrona. Enjoy!

The supposed guerrilla activity near Tayrona turned out to be paracos activity, as already posted in that thread.
It caused the displacement of 400 people that reached and blocked the main road just 4 kms from the main entrance of Parque Tayrona.

There was also some problem in Taraza some months ago, between Medellin and Cartagena. Road being closed for turmoil in the area. Then, it was found out that the protest of "cocaleros" had been organized by one of Los Mellizos, who was later shoot by the army in a finca there.

As Peter wrote, safety is fine on those roads.
