Searching for an international call card from US to Colombia

Any suggestions for calling cards from the US to Colombia? We use Yahoo Messenger all the time for computer to computer, but we need to talk on cells when traveling and I've got this 7-11 calling card that costs way more than it says on the card.

Thanks

nobelcom.com You can have it so it recognizes your cell when you dial its acess number.

Try this site http://www.smsdiscount.com/en/index.html

They'll give you a number to dial from your phone, and you'll be able to then call Colombia cheaply from your cell phone.

You know if you buy a Tracfone international is the same as regular. I just purchased 900 minutes for $80. The phones are cheap too.

Funny, I left my Tracfone in Colombia with my girlfriend so she has a phone to use when she lands in Miami. I was not aware you could make international calls with it. Still a little expensive, but doable.

Looks like in order to use smsdiscount suggested by viajero, you need to down load a program to your computer for calls from your computer, even if you only want to use a cell phone for international calls. You need a Phd to understand some of the plans

Thanks to all

Buy a Magic Jack in the US and set up a local US telephone number where you live and then send the Magic Jack to Colombia. That way the call each way is free to you and from you. Keep in mind the person on the other end will have to be at their computer but you can be at home or on your cell.

If you have a smart phone that can connect to a 3-G network, you can download an app from Vonage and for somewhere around $25/month you can call all phones in Colombia (cellular and landline) for no additional charge. There are other countries in the plan as well. Check out Vonage's website for more information.

Telephone calling suggestions.

USA to Colombia: Bufalo mentioned the Orbitel calling card. When in the US this is the card that I use. I've tried many others, and have found this one to be the best of those that I've used. Like he said, you get a lot of minutes. I bought the cards in Washington , DC. They are available in other places. Additionally, you can buy the pin number on line if you wish. The web page has a different name, which I don't remember. I have a card here and the 800 numbers are 800-659-4103 and 800-833-7098. Look for the cards in the small tiendas in latino neighborhoods.

Colombia to USA: I have TIGO post pago. dial 00 414 1 xxx yyy zzzz. This is a direct dial. The charge is not much, but I can't tell you how much, something like 250 peso per minute. This method can also be used on TIGO pre pago.

Magic Jack is the worst piece of crap ever. You would be better off with 2 tin cans and a string. Vonage is better but still have a lot of problems. I talk to my friend on it all the time and it is constantly cutting out. It is a good thing he never has anything really important to say.

Been using Vonage World since it came out last summer.
Multiple and long calls to Medellin & Venezuela daily.
Using it over Comcast broadband. Quality is great with very few
calls needing to be reconnected. Very inexpensive - 24.95 per month
(30.41 with all taxes & fees) for all you can talk. Can also be used from
smart cell phone.

In my neighborhood you can buy 3 Orbitel $2 cards for $5.50

Thats 50 cents bonus slam-dunked in my pocket!

But lately the service sucks. I've entered the pin 3 times, I begin entering the telefone number and it goes back to the message of, "please type the phone number", etc. Not sure if it's my wife's cell down there, but the connection has been sucky lately.

I also noted something weird. It's been giving me more, sometimes way more minutes to my wife's cell than to her sister's lan line. maybe because the house phone is new????

Costco sells international calling cards for $30--about 600 minutes (could be less . . don't recall). Discount on recharge. I use "PhonePower" rather than Vonage. About $8/month for same service. Magic Jack requires that your computer always be on, unlike PhonePower or Vonage. Phone Power has higher customer ratings. Vonage made me buy a bulky modem but PhonePower gave me a pocket sized modem that packs easily anywhere.

I use pinzoo.com OK today but,, who knows tomorrow ? No monthly fee,, I've had 5 or 6 bucks sit in the account for MONTHS and it's still there when I return to the U.S.

When MOST folks call Colombia they call a city.

Calling a cellphone COSTS the caller.

Calling a cellphone in a RURAL area costs the caller both cellphone charges and LONG DISTANCE from the main city to the rural town.
