Search: Santa Marta hotels, Ctga travel advice

I am traveling to Colombia witha friend in a couple of weeks. We're arriving in Bogota but we're flying to Santa Marta for a few days. Can anyone recommend a good hotel to stay in while in Santa Marta? We're also thinking of spending a couple of days in Cartagena before flying back to Bogota. What's the fastest and saftest way to get from Santa Marta to Cartagena? Thanks!

Hotels I used to stay at the Zuwana, spelling is wrong, but phonetically pronounced, ZOO Wanna, it's really nice, private beach, great swimming pool, nice rooms with great views. It's lots of other stuff as well but it's too much to list.

There's another just up the road that I also stayed at, can't remember the name now, but I think these are two that the U.S. Embassy had approved for us to stay in.

You can take a plane to Cartenga or a bus. I'd recommend a plane but I think a bus would be safe on that route. You might want to check with the embassy before trying the bus or driving. The route is mostly along the coast. Remember, if your a gringo looking dude, you stand out like a sore thumb, so that makes you an easy target to identify. Blend it if at all possible, don't do things that bring attention to yourself. I used to go snorkling at Santa Marta, it was fun.

Santa Marta Hotel and travel! greetings, I know one hotel not to stay in "The Sol Hotel Inn" on the water front Santa Marta. It has gone down hill with new ownership. My last trip I just stayed at a very cheap, very friendly backpacker hotel named "Hotel Familur" Just one block from the ocean. From here on out I will stay in the much nicer area on the ocean named El Rodadero. That is where all the nice hotels and beach are located. I have taken the bus to and from Cartagena from Santa Marta. It is a one hour thirty minute trip Santa Marta to Barranquilla. Then about two hours from Barranquilla to Cartagena. If travel time is tight I would fly. If you have enough time the bus is fine. By all means travel during day light hours you will have no problems. "If you have time by all means check out Barranquilla. The ideal hotel there is the hotel Majestic! Reasonably priced, very beautiful and professional staff to include free breakfast. Viva Colombia!

nightlife? Thanks for the suggestions. I think we're going to be staying at Hotel La Sierra while in Santa Marta. We're also going to be making our way to Barranquilla instead of Cartagena and flying back to Bogota from there. Any suggestions as far as night life in Santa Marta and Barranquilla? We're goign to be in Santa Marta from Saturday to Monday and in Barranquilla from Monday to Wednesday.

I just stayed at Hotel Zuwana and it's VERY nice!.. As far as night life, go the Carols Vives' night club, not sure of the name buy every local knows it and every tourist goes there. Also, most nice hotels offer activities, if there is one for a night ride in the Chiva, I highly recommend it. They tour the city while a live conjunto Vallenato plays, and you can drink.
