Search: Hotels in Barranquilla

Does anyone know of any Hotels in Barranquilla. I am aware of the Plaza, El Prado, the Royal and Ave 58 Hotels. Are there anymore. It seem it should be for such a large city or is it a security issue for non-colombian....

Thanks

I should buy stock in this hotel! The hotel Majestic is a very good deal for the dollar. Although the price went up a small amount since my first visit to Barranquilla. I was a guest there the end of last month. It is a beautiful hotel with a wonderful staff. My first trip I paid thirty five dollars U.S. per night. Now the cost is closer to fourty three dollars per night. That includes breakfast each day you stay. There is a shopping center just two blocks away and the nice El Prado district of the city is very close. One night I emptied the mini bar in my room, sodas, beer, chips, peanuts all of it and it didn't come to twelve dollars U.S. The Hotel Majestic is always one piece of my Colombia trip when I am in Barranquilla visiting amigo's. You won't be disappointed! Have fun. Viva Colombia!

I second the Majestic! Your first impressions are correct... there does seem to be a dearth of hotels in Barranquilla, at least when considering absence of major international hotel chains (Hilton, Hyatt, Utell, etc). Not only this, the "top" hotels (El Prado, Barranquilla Plaza, etc) IMHO seem to be overpriced and overrated, and not up to par with what is considered 4 and 5 star by international standards. I remember staying in the Hilton Colon in Guayaquil, Ecuador, and being quite impressed - and surprised - by stay, with service and accommadations that in many ways surpassed what you could find in the US.

This is not in any way a slam against the place... yo quiero mi querida Barranquilla(!!!), so much so that I bought an apartment here (I split time between the states and Colombia where my wife and kid live). However there are some quality hotels by Colombian standards to be found.

As already mentioned, the Hotel Majestic is a good choice, though it has been a few years since I stayed there. The accomodations were comfortable (by Colombian standards) and the staff very amiable and helpful (if you speak Spanish). This seemed to be a place where Colombianos with the means to travel chose to stay. I always chose the jr. suite - good value for the money. One block away is the Metro Cine, and within short walking distance a SAO (in case you didn't know, a Colombian-style WalMart). The architecture is interesting also, sort of a moorish-middle east style to it.

Beyond this, I really can't recommend any other hotel that gives you the same value for the money like the Majestic, and I have stayed at almost all of the hotels that a frequent tourist could have stayed. I liked the Royale too for the same reasons, value for money, but my wife was never crazy about it.

Here is the URL for the Majestic: http://www.cotelco.org/hotelmajestic/index.html

If you're interested, I can try to dig up more facts on other hotels, and telling you what I liked and what I didn't like. As I said before, really I have stayed at many of the hotels in the city... and maybe I can even find the URL to the place, too.

One place that I haven't stayed though is the new Dann Barranquilla across the street from the Centro Comercial Buenavista. It's new (it took them enough time to finish it!), part of the Colombian-owned(?) and managed chain that you will find throughout the major cities of Colombia, 4 and 5 stars. I'd be interested to know how the stay went as compared to other places. Anyone?

Too much for American Golf Not what I espected, try Hacienda Santa Ines, it is 110.000 small apts. Majestic is also good, I did not like the rooms as much.
There are two small new hotels and the look like they will have good prices.
Now prices have gone up.
