Search: Hotel in Bogota for $40

I just found this site and hope you experts can help. We are two senior ladies making our first trip to Colombia. We're looking for a nice, safe, clean hotel room with twin beds, bath w/hot water 24/7 for under $40. We've searched the web and are not finding good, current info.

The hotels we've found either don't have websites or working emails or fax machines. We tried the Platypus, which is so highly recommended but they are full for our dates. We don't have a guidebook (we have ordered one but it has not arrived) and we leave in less than 10 days (Mar 9) . . . we're getting panickly as we arrive late at night.

I just returned from Ecuador where I paid $28 for a nice twin room at the Hostal Alcalá in Quito and am looking for something comparable. Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance,
Sandy (in Denton)

Hotels in Bogota I suspect you are looking for the city of Bogota. I have never seen the Platypus but I have heard mixed comments.. sounds great for backpackers but I am not sure that is what you are looking for. I have two recommendations and I have stayed at both.

Las Terrazas: It was nice enough. It is in Chapinero (which is okay) and it is not far from the North or the Central. I would not recommend wondering around the neighborhood at night, but you would likely be safe. I did. I can't remember what I spent but it was definitely less than $40 per night. The people were VERY nice and the breakfast was included and very good. (Address: Calle 54A #3-12) (Phone: 255-5777)

Suites Real 97: I like this place a lot. I hate to recommend it since it was hard enough to find a room that night. Anyway.. I stayed there several nights. It may be a bit more than $40. The room I had was more like a suite (thus the name). They have several locations and this one was walking distance to Parque 93. If you know Bogota, Calle 93 (Parque 93) is a lot of clubs and restaurants as well as Calle 82 (Zona Rosa). The rates and info is on their website: http://www.suitesreal.com/

I hope this helps. Good luck!

Cheap Place to Stay in Bogota If you're willing to consider Platypus, then I'm guessing that hostel accommodations are fine. Hotel Internacional is located on Calle 14 and Carrera 5. Rates are 12,000 pesos per person for a room w/o bathroom and 15,000 pesos per person for a room with a bathroom. Each room has 3 beds and 24 hr hot water. It is extremely basic, but the rooms are clean and the hostel is safe. Only employees can open the door for guests coming/leaving. This hostel is also very popular with Israeli backpackers.

If you need exact details, just go to your local bookstore and look in the Colombia Lonely Planet, under the Places to Stay section for Bogota. It is the 4th listing.

I stayed at Suite Real 85. This is walking distance to the Zona Rosa. Just like C2 said it has a suite with kitchen, living room, and bedroom. Nice, but ran over 40 dollars. They have a computer downstairs you can use for internet access but it was really slow.

If you feed any thing post it.

Thanks! Thanks for these suggestions, I'll Google them right now! One big problem is there are no guidebooks for Colombia in any of our bookstores here in Denton or in Dallas (I've called), that's why we had to order one and it STILL has not arrived. Normally, we receive books from Amazon.com in about 3 days but not this time . . . I'm wondering if they even have it in stock. When I try other websites, I don't find anything but info on Costa Rica!

Thanks,
Sandy (in Denton)

Just got back today from a few days in Bogota. My girlfriend and I stayed at the Hotel Gran Marquez, 51 and Caracas, Chapinero, not fancy but certainly nice enough, 60,000 pesos for the two of us. I´m looking for something a little cheaper for the next time. Not easy to find inexpensive safe lodging in Bogota!
