Can't be too expensive, as the school is not in the greatest hood. However, the University is right on the Metro, so if you live anywhere along the Metro route, you can get to school for 1000 pesos from 5 to 15 minutes.

In the areas around the school, I am sure you can get a small 1 bedroom apt for 300,000 or less, in estrato 4 or 3 (Utilities will be about 80,000 + 70,000 for good internet). This should leave you enough money to get stoned with all the other students at the "airport" near the soccer field.

There are some OK apartments in El Centro, and better ones as you head west from El Centro on the San Javier Metro Line (between El Centro and Laurales). Laurales or El Pobaldo would be the best places to live, but now you are looking at 500,000 to 650,000 for a small place (of your own), and about 150,000 in utilities.

UdeA Yes, the area around the university is not really good, in fact a mile from it you find a bad neighborhood area so I suggest that you find a room somewhere else near the metro and take it everyday to go to the university.
Another thing to consider is this, that university is public so they often have student strikes and therefore you may end up studying only one semester in a year.
Compared to US tuition costs, even private universities in Colombia are cheap so you should consider the private colleges in Medellin, for example EAFIT, UPB, Universidad de Medellin and others.

UdeA.. UdeA is the best university in the department and the second one in the country. But it has problems of students strikes.

Check
www.udea.edu.co
http://www.mineducacion.gov.co/
http://www.minrelext.gov.co/
http://www.minrelext.gov.co/apostilla/

To enter to the UdeA you have to pass a test, also you probalby have to take the ICFES test, In the privates universities you only need money to enter, they check for the ICFES test results grather than 280 and an interview.

In Colombia you need to choose your mayor before starting (I have heard that is different in US), so think wath you want. If you choose something in the financial field, I recommend Eafit as your university.

Suerte!

This is just the true!!

Rent Just in front of the University there are apartments in "estrato 3", for rent less than 400 mil pesos per mont. And they are building apartments for sale, for more or less 50'000.000 pesos, arround 22000 us dollars

This is just the true!!

You could also consider renting a room. I´ve seen a lot of ads around campus at UdeA (I´m actually spending a semester here) and it seems to be cheaper than renting an apartment if money is an issue. If not you can find apartments in good neighborhoods for about 200 dollars a month plus utilities.

Another thing to consider is the student strikes. Last semester there was one for about a month and a half and you end up wasting a lot of time because of them.

Anyway, check out the univerity´s website: www.udea.edu.co

Hmm, I know of one... I lived there for three months I paid 850,000 ($300 at the time) for an apartment across the street from the main entrance of UdeA. It was fully furnished, two student bedrooms and a master bedroom, Cable TV, computer with internet and printer and a bathtub/shower with hot water.

The bathtub was a novelty for mis sobrinos, they'd never seen one. The owner is an administrator at UdeA.

Send a message to me if interested, and I will give the email of the owner. You will need to speak Spanish to deal with him.

Good Luck,
Shanidar
