I bought a gas stove from Home Center in Bogota last Saturday and they said it would be delivered on Tuesday, yesterday.
They gave no time frame, just Tuesday and they never showed.
My girlfriend called yesterday when she got home from work and they said definitely today.
I waited here all day passing time by arguing on pbh with people suffering from delusions and other handicaps................and, yes, no show.
I had someone call this afternoon as i can't speak spanish and they said they were on their way, but still a no show.
Do any of you locals know of a way to get a time frame for a delivery? And a phone call if they're not going to show up to let me know?

adrienne79 says on Apr 9, 2008, 17:37: that happened to us with a fridge and stove from Carrefour. They said Saturday...we waited all day in a brand new apt, with no furniture, no TV, no nada and they didn't show. Being Gringa I was pissed and wasn't going to tolerate it. We went up and talked to the manager. He remember us from when he sold it to us. We mentioned either getting our money back or else naming an exact time the next morning for delivery. We didn't think he would do either but sure enough he offered either / or. We chose for the next morning and they were extreemly punctual.

I tried 3 different providers, had several "no call, no show" missed appointments, until I finally got Telecom to hook me up. And that was a whole day process to make that apointment - which included physically going to the main Telecom office with the landlord. And all of those companies didn't even have my money yet. It seemed like no company actually wanted to make money or open new accounts.

Frank Rizzo says on Apr 11, 2008, 06:36: Hey GL.....did they give you the 1/2 inch line?? You can tip them and they'll crank up the regulator to the max.....makes a huge difference....if you've got the "tankless water heater"...and a grill.....

vicshere says on Apr 11, 2008, 08:31: I have a 1/2 inch gas line coming into my house and it runs everything fine listo |
Frank Rizzo says on Apr 11, 2008, 08:40: good deal vic......those tankless water heaters really suck up the gas....so you have good line pressure for sure... we're putting in 2 of those wall mount wall heaters now...and it sucked the first service dry...they had to put on that panaderia regulator and we maxed out the 1/2 inch line..... the specs called for 3/4....but it looks like it may work..
vicshere says on Apr 11, 2008, 08:49: the funny thing Frank ....when I did work on the gas line I didn't even bother to turn off the gas valve......you just take the fitting off and install the new fitting or valve.....the pressure you can hear coming out of the open pipe is undetectable.....back in Canada the pressure coming out of the pipe will knock you over .....so I don't know how such a low pressure runs all my crap at the same time listo |
gringoloid says on Apr 11, 2008, 14:15: i didn't realize that there might be a limit on the gas. i have a 1/2 line and decided to add a secadora today. hope the system can handle all that.
Frank Rizzo says on Apr 11, 2008, 15:16: you should be okay GL...just a dryer doesn't use too much....the tankless water heaters typically use 100-200,000btu depending on the size....so they really suck it up...

jonas says on Apr 11, 2008, 15:33: tell me about it FR, my oven (gas) takes over 2 hours of preheating to bake a decent pizza. Where do they install the regulator, I can“t seem to find it, but then again I am pretty blind. Could it be just one regulator for the entire floor? I live in a highrise flat. Could it be that gas pressure is so low because of the height (11th floor) ? I used to run everything on a panaderia regulador (variable) at my last house and it was fantastic, boiling water in seconds! What I have, I do not want to lose, but Where I am I do not want to stay, but those I love, I do not want to leave, but those I know I no longer want to see, but Where I die, I do not want to go;I want to stay where I have never been |
gringoloid says on Apr 11, 2008, 15:45: FR............when you wrote before, i told the guy about the regulador............he said si, maximo......................but where exactly is this regulator? Out of 20 apartments in my building, only 3, including mine have gas.
Frank Rizzo says on Apr 11, 2008, 15:46: Hi Jonas....there will usually be 2......the first one on the meter...probably wont have to increase.....then there will be a smaller one just for you.....(usually...you know colombia)...the smaller one will usually be outside your apto...just out a window where the line comes into your apto......crank 'er up.....baby !!
jonas says on Apr 11, 2008, 15:49: thanks Frank, I will look again. I might be making more pizza soon...:-) What I have, I do not want to lose, but Where I am I do not want to stay, but those I love, I do not want to leave, but those I know I no longer want to see, but Where I die, I do not want to go;I want to stay where I have never been |
Frank Rizzo says on Apr 11, 2008, 15:55: GL....if its' at the max....have them come out and put in a larger meter and regulator.....you gotta bitch...but they'll do it....and then you can raise your secondary regulator....

Lowell says on Apr 12, 2008, 08:47: I'm installing a small 5 liter Bosh heater for my shower. This unit is small enough not to need a exaust gas vent pipe. I'd imagine that it'll not use much gas, My feed pipe from the unit to shower head will be less than 4 feet. Alas, no more suicide shower. Alfred E. Newman. "What. Me Worry?" |
gringoloid says on Apr 12, 2008, 09:17: these guys are here working on this today and that exhaust gas vent pipe is the most time consuming part of the whole installation. they've been here for 3 full days already.

Frank Rizzo says on Apr 13, 2008, 07:18: Hi GL...i only knew about 1 vent per tankless hot water heater....it's like a 10cm diam. vent out the top, yes??
gringoloid says on Apr 13, 2008, 07:25: Yes, FR, but let me explain.............they cut a whole through the bricks for one vent, and then the other comes out of the top of the unit.
Frank Rizzo says on Apr 13, 2008, 07:39: Interesting....GL...to me sounds like the hole through the brick is just the gas input line...and the one out the top is the vent.....
vicshere says on Apr 13, 2008, 07:57: here's another trick for the tankless water heaters.....I have the flue less water heater...I have actually blocked off about 40% of the outlet.....I saw too much heat escaping....so I blocked it off with a piece of 16 gauge and screws...it does appear we are using less gas and the water heater is more efficient listo |

Frank Rizzo says on Apr 13, 2008, 08:29: that'll work vic....and it won't blow anything up.....but pushes up the temp of all the internals....you may find out that you shorten the life of the heater.....with heat failure of parts..kind of a delicate balance on those..

vicshere says on Apr 13, 2008, 08:55: yes I agree so far its working great after 2 years....I have replaced the inner rubber control baffle 2 times but that's okay I can open her up and change it out in about 1/2 hour listo |
