Sat here all day waiting..............

I bought a gas stove from Home Center in Bogota last Saturday and they said it would be delivered on Tuesday, yesterday.

They gave no time frame, just Tuesday and they never showed.

My girlfriend called yesterday when she got home from work and they said definitely today.

I waited here all day passing time by arguing on pbh with people suffering from delusions and other handicaps................and, yes, no show.

I had someone call this afternoon as i can't speak spanish and they said they were on their way, but still a no show.

Do any of you locals know of a way to get a time frame for a delivery? And a phone call if they're not going to show up to let me know?

that happened to us with a fridge and stove from Carrefour. They said Saturday...we waited all day in a brand new apt, with no furniture, no TV, no nada and they didn't show. Being Gringa I was pissed and wasn't going to tolerate it. We went up and talked to the manager. He remember us from when he sold it to us. We mentioned either getting our money back or else naming an exact time the next morning for delivery. We didn't think he would do either but sure enough he offered either / or. We chose for the next morning and they were extreemly punctual.

It took me close to a month to get Internet service in Villavo. I tried 3 different providers, had several "no call, no show" missed appointments, until I finally got Telecom to hook me up. And that was a whole day process to make that apointment - which included physically going to the main Telecom office with the landlord. And all of those companies didn't even have my money yet. It seemed like no company actually wanted to make money or open new accounts.

Gloid - they have your money already? Be prepared for a LONG, frustrating fight to get that grill. I hope it doesn't happen like that. But my guess is the store will have no motivation to get you that grill until it is convenient for them. Unless you take extreme measures like showing up with a few guys who are local and know how to handle the store's management. What I mean by that is, they will be firm and aggressive, get pissed off - in Spanish. That's what was so frustrating for me, with getting a damn Internet provider to hook me up. If I could have conversed in English, I would have verbally torn them a new asshole. But I was dependant on my wife, who is polite to a fault and used to not getting decent service. Good luck buddy.

I was a fifteen minute walk away when he called me and when I got there he told me he had been waiting for over an hour. some of these guys have no sense of time or truth. You just have to call them on it.

He had taken more than 3 EXTRA weeks to deliver the original bed... Now I`m sleeping in a bed that is not the color we chose.

Ask out in the yard of the HomeCenter if there is a reliable guy there to do the same for you.

they had to build scaffolding up to the 4th floor to cut through the wall from the outside for the venting.

Hey GL.....did they give you the 1/2 inch line?? You can tip them and they'll crank up the regulator to the max.....makes a huge difference....if you've got the "tankless water heater"...and a grill.....

If you have your outdoor grill hooked up to the gas line...light your grill and turn on high..it should reach 400F degrees in 10 min or less...

You can ge the manager out there...if you need...and ask them for the panaderia hook up....we paid more for that ...but it's a huge level of gas that will run 600,000 btu....so it'll run a tankless water heater, grill and your stove all at the same time if you need....

gringoloid says on Apr 13, 2008, 07:25:

Yes, FR, but let me explain.............they cut a whole through the bricks for one vent, and then the other comes out of the top of the unit.

I was told that this place would never sell without gas; that people wouldn't even come to see it.

I dunno, seems crazy to do this major installation and then move out.

Frank Rizzo says on Apr 13, 2008, 07:39:

Interesting....GL...to me sounds like the hole through the brick is just the gas input line...and the one out the top is the vent.....

The gas thing is important to many buyers....we did the same thing...as gas is about 1/4 the price of electric..in colombia..(btu per btu)....from what i'm told...i didn't take the time to calculate it out..

The important thing...if you've got a balcony or terazza...make sure they run a line there with a quick connect for your grill....a real good selling point...as you can adapt your normal LP grill for natural gas and put a hose on it...and people can grill out and never need to re-fill a tank..

here's another trick for the tankless water heaters.....I have the flue less water heater...I have actually blocked off about 40% of the outlet.....I saw too much heat escaping....so I blocked it off with a piece of 16 gauge and screws...it does appear we are using less gas and the water heater is more efficient

Or maybe you're just gonna blow the house, Vic :)

that'll work vic....and it won't blow anything up.....but pushes up the temp of all the internals....you may find out that you shorten the life of the heater.....with heat failure of parts..kind of a delicate balance on those..

yes I agree so far its working great after 2 years....I have replaced the inner rubber control baffle 2 times but that's okay I can open her up and change it out in about 1/2 hour

I think a couple of important things to remember about the tankless water heater

one don't compare or expect the same performance between a tankless to the big ass tanks we have in N.A.
second you need to reduce your water flow on the shower head....the small tank less heater will not heat the water sufficiently with a fast flow of water

slow down the flow or water force and you will see the water come out hotter
