SantaFe de Antioquia

Hi. My gal and I are going to be in SantaFe de Antioquia for a few days, Oct. 14 - 16, taking advantage of the long weekend. So -

Does anyone have
1) hotels they would recommend
2) a "must see" itinerary or additional recommendations

I guess we're going to go to Rio Negro for a day as well. Basically I'm was going to leave the itinerary up to her to arrange but I'm kinda anal about these things.. I'm an american after all.

Thanks for your help,
Don

if you got money then the best option is the Mariscal Robledo... a very very nice hotel with huge swimming pool and a great old era feel to it... may cost up to US$60-70 per person with food on the weekend.. a lot cheaper during the week

Mariscal Robledo is an old colonial building with a beautiful view. In the town square sometimes there are good live bands, artesenias, food vendors (like awesome cheese arepas that are not easy to find in Medellin), and bars. It just a colonial village so I am not sure about an active itenary, but I mostly wander around the colonial buildings, or relax by the pool. Many people have fincas or country houses in the area.

Beautiful place, very peaceful and colorful architecture, just stroll around the streets and visit the many little squares and churches...

Besides that, I recommend going to the Puente de Occidente which is close by. I went by foot (about an hour or hour and a half) but there are also taxis or motorcycle services which can take you there and back. Amazing view of the Cauca River and surrounding mountains.

Some pics of my visit there a couple of years ago:

I strongly suggest horseback riding. I believe there are two places to choose from, sorry I don't remember the name of the one I went to but it's a house with a nice pool in the back yard. Not too far from the plaza. It's a GREAT two hour tour through the river mountain area, etc. It was absolutley BREATHTAKING!!!!!! Tell the mototaxi guy to take you tehre and reserve at least a day in advance, you can even have them pick you up at the hotel (we stayed at the Robledo also)....

i strongly suggest I think you chose the worse time to go to antioquia, sorry...

There are several facts: 1. first puente on a long while, wich usually brings more turists. Second: "Antioquia le Canta a Colombia", a tv show that will be held on antioquia and broadcasted nationally. 3,then , you got 2 electronic partyes: Mauro picotto, a DJ superstar and Danilo Vigorito, a italian techno master....

Each thin events bring about 5.000 people each... last time i went to a electronic party to santafe de antioquia, it took us 4 hours to get there.... i'm not going there this weekend, i even have the tickets, but it's gonna be more than packed

SantaFe
Thanks for all the help. I had checked out Mariscal Robledo. Normally I stay at the nice places but they wanted ~$300,000 per night! I chose Hotel Caseron instead since this was the initial recommendation of my amigovia and was only $125,000 night. Of course they didn't take credit cards so I had to go to Conavi, put money in their bank account and fax the receipt to them to confirm the reservation. I confirmed and they said I was set so.. hopefully. I arrive tomorrow.

I guess considering the traffic I think I'll take the taxi instead of the bus from MDE.

Cheers,
Don

i'm telling you, there's not gonna be enough room for all the people there this weekend... i asked for a friends finca to stay, he ussually charges 100K a day, and he told me he has to ask 300K at least, everyone is going there this weekend, its gonna be crowded and overpriced

watch out fot the cars, too much ecstasy on the road this weekend.
