Santa Marta
Hello, Just a quick post to ask anyone if they have contacts with the Santa Marta Tourism Board (If they even have one?)
also need contacts with major hotel operators in Santa Marta, resturants, Tour guides. Real Estate Agents, and rental agencies.
Why do i ask? because I recently acquired SantaMarta.com and wish to develop it out, and help promote the city and tourism.
to the moderators of this site, if the above is considered spamming, please feel free to modify it as you wish. just trying to make some contacts down there in this industry

One advice; go visit Santa Marta and make personal contacts. If they know you are serious and sincere, they will join in. A lot of businesses are very small so your best bet is hotels and apt. complexes and various tourist services that are hard to find till one arrives in Santa Marta. I think you will be doing us a great service if we can locate (and hopefully book) rooms, tours, transportation etc. So, I do hope you make a go of it as I will definitely look it up next time I am thinking of visiting.
One thing that strikes me as a problem - because some outfits are very small, they can't afford to pay you anything but maybe a corporate sponsor can step in and pay to keep the info for the little guys on it. For example, there is a boat service that charges you about $2 (3000 pesos) to take you to Playa Blanca and it runs every 10 or 20 minutes - obviously he can't pay for the info being on the website but its great info for the tourists going there to know that there is 1) another beach called Playa Blanca and that 2) you can go there in 20 minutes for two dollars!
I wish you the best of luck.

You sound like you don't even know anything about Santa Marta, no real connection. A typical money-maker you'll probably just help mess the place up with loud tourists. Don't crap in Santa Marta and I won't crap in your crappy thread.

Thanks rjstuff. Yes I understand most mom and pops business's may not afford to advertise, my goal is not to choke all business for every penny i can get. I do quite well with 2000+ other websites I own and run, and would focus on some of the hidden treasures of santa marta, and best bets for sights to see and things to do. of course i will have some corporate advertisers. as they are needed to offset the expenses of the little mom and pop operations, I'll do some good things with the site.
Hey Bufalo, your right, I have never been to Santa Marta. but I have been to colombia a couple of times last year. and have done extensive traveling thru out south america.
Bufalo States A typical money-maker.
society ditates that we have to make money to live dumbass! to put food on the table, to keep a roof over our head, feed the kids, etc etc. if you don't like the way I make money, then please stop crapping in my thread.
I think many people would rather have loud tourists, than assh-les with bad attitudes like you obviously have. whats the matter? you don't want tourists to push up the prices of girls down there? its a free society and free economy. get over it, and move on.
seems you have some serious issues to deal with.

Fellow Boisean! Hello Lochdhu,
Yes, I also live in (of all places) Boise, Idaho, and I was just sure I was the only PBH from here!
Anyway, I was in Santa Marta two months ago and made a good contact with a tour guide dude named Jairo. Also, I took the boat to Playa Blanca and we (my fiancé and I) were the only people there! Very cool. So I suppose there might be room for a few loud tourists (at the far end of the beach and out of earshot!) Anyway, if you'd like his contact, let me know. Also, if you'd like to grab a beer and talk Colombia sometime, I'd be happy to meet you.
Don't worry about Bufalo. I've been on this site for about a month now. I've found some great people and tons of good advice. But you do have to wade through some BS sometimes. As you know, some people use discussion boards to vent their pent up frustrations with the world. It sucks, but it is better than the alternative. Without PBH to vent on, he would probably be down at the bar trying to kick someone's ass for nothing. At least you won't get hit with a broken bottle here in cyberspace.
Good luck with your website and I hope you actually do make some money.

No shit, I have a child as well, I have to put food on the table as well. From what I hear, Santa Marta is slowly turning into the next Cartagena. People who look to make a buck, can screw it up. You yourself haven't ever been there.
"he is not a very happy person. and only wants to complain."
You apparently have not read a lot of my other threads.
"I think many people would rather have loud tourists, than assh-les with bad attitudes like you obviously have. whats the matter? you don't want tourists to push up the prices of girls down there? its a free society and free economy"
1. sure it is free - like I can crap on a public board if I feel a thread is a toilet. - YOU posted, expect responses.
2. Did you ask those people, the ones who live there if they want the loud tourists? go to locals in other places where tourism boomed, ask them how they like it.
3. Prices of girls?
A - Again, another whore-filled Cartegena.
B - Do you know me motherfucker? Come visit me after that accusation, really and we'll have a pow wow. I volunteered as a rape counselor in the states and this is also for David in buttfuck Idaho who said "Without PBH to vent on, he would probably be down at the bar trying to kick someone's ass for nothing. At least you won't get hit with a broken bottle here in cyberspace." No, I don't go to bars and wouldn't hit anyone with a bottle for no reason. But that doesn't make me 100% nonviolent. There are a few "men" who are hurting, two of them REAL bad after trying to get it on with "girls" here. Why? My interference. When I see some old-ass pushing some 15 year old to do something I get involved. Things like this tend to happen here when foriegn tourism builds up. Come, stay a while and you'll see.
Am I a bad person for this? Maybe to some, but I don't think so. I don't see you having the balls to say something like that to my face. Really bad accusation. And David, you've been here a whole month, not much time, so until you know me, don't judge.

Bufalasshole,
I'd be more Bufalasshole,
I'd be more than happy to say it to your face. I'll be sure to look you up when I do make it down there. you can count on it.
A lot of business rely on turism.
my orginal post asked for contacts, not for asshole response's that have some pent up anger issues about trying to promote tourism in Santa Marta in a positive light, and help locals make a few extra dollars.
Who cares if you were a rape counselor? or you hurt a couple men, big fucking deal. obviously you like to toot your horn and puff out your chest like a typical ape thumping his chest. I'll toot mine too then, I spent 14 years as a police officer in california. 8 in military, so now what? what does that mean? not a god damm thing. point is, move on, and go crap else where, your shit talking, and anger problems really show your true colors.
if you dont like tourism to grow where your at, then MOVE! and get over it.

touchy! Jeez buttfuckalo, you crack me up!
Isn't it interesting that the people most afraid of being judged are the ones who tend to do the most judging?
In a month I've seen some good input from you, bufalo, it is true. But this jumping on lochdhu's case is totally out of line. If you are truly concerned about being judged negatively, trying being a bit more positive! To paraphrase my mom: "If you can't say anything nice, shut the hell up!"
Does this board need a playground monitor? Dang. I nominate Elmo!
Here's another idea. Maybe Peter could make a special PBH Fight Club where the violent prone posters could exhaust their angst on each other and leave the rest of us to our legitimate discussions. In the meantime, note that this thread is located in the Friendly Talkzone. Then go back and read your posts. Then tell us why you think your posts are appropriate for this forum. I'd expect more maturity from a rape counselor.
And as for Santa Marta not wanting tourism ... makes me wonder why they're building hotels and other tourism related industries. Must be for fun; surely they don't want any euros or US dollars to trickle into their starving economy. That would be terrible! Heaven forbid the locals should actually benefit from those loud idiots on the beach flinging money everywhere. When I was in SM, I saw quite a few locals who survived off tourism, selling trinkets, hairbraids, food, boat rides, serenades, not to mention the obvious hotel rooms. Who is going to buy all that shit if not tourists?
But don't worry bufalo ... for every beach that gets "ruined" by obnoxious foreign invaders, Colombia will still have hundreds of miles of quaint and unspoiled coastline. Go enjoy it in peace.
