My husband and I will be going to Medellin for Semana Santa. We can't decide if it is worth going to check out Santa Fe de Antioquia as a day trip (we are spending all nights in Medellin). What all is there to do that is so special there? If it is to just look at a colonial city...is it that much different than say Barrichara, Guane, San Gil, Socorro, etc? We do plan to go to Guatape so is it worth fitting in, in your opinion?
Oh and we won't have a car so if we go, it will be by bus.

Gator says on Mar 23, 2009, 13:38: Holy Week ( Semana Santa) is NOT a good time to travel-the number one religious time in Colombia, Always call ahead to make sure thing are opened or closed. We have been several times to the colonial city of Popayán for Semana Santa. We make our reservations as far in advance as possible because it is the most spectacular Holy Week festivities in Colombia. While not near Medellin the same prevails in most of Colombia-really a time for family. Underneath it all Colombia is a deeply religious country.
