San Andres Question?

Hope you are all well...

This will be my first trip to San Andres and I am totally on the fence about what hotel to stay at..please help...I did read up on the sugerencias on the site buy ya know...

I love the beach, I am from LA originally, so its one of the things I miss the most about living in Bogota. So I would like a hotel with a great beach, romantic and generally a chill zone.

Looking forward to the beach rumba vs. city rumba, if you could let me know your preferences on what bars/discos to go to that would be great tooo.

Thanks in advance for writing back I really appreciate it.

peace - clau

My take on San Andres What a cheap and easy get away. If you really need a hotel on the beach probably Sunrise on the SE coast is near the best streatches of beach. Super plans with the Decameron Hotel group but really we find that the Aquarium is passable and the Marisol is the best option. Our fav is to use the Hotel Nirvana. You will probably be the only guests here and the place is a bit on the worn side but offers many options. Rent a moto as it is on the far SW side of the island. With the moto then you can hit all the beaches. Sunset hotel, a nice but basic place is next door, more modern and has Sharkey's dive shop but with the options at Nivana..... Like you can set your menu. We tell the staff if we will be there for meals and what we would like and they fix it for us. Have them keep fresh coconuts cold in the fridge so at any hour you can make your own coco loco's. Speaking of any hours, the pool is always open, you are the only guest. Do the math about swimsuits. We party at Deep Blue until 4am, cruise along the beach drive in the moonlight and have a swim until 5am with a nice Coco Loco! Never an issue if you want to bring a guest in.... Hmmmmm
Have your Colombiana call and book the Colombiana price!
Anyway that's my take on the easy, no Visa Problem vacation places for me and my Colombiana.

San Andres Forget the Aquarium overpriced , Marazul is better but still overpriced , suggest the Sunrise GREAT HOTEL , book with a travel agent including flight you can get some awesome package deals like $500 for a week.

Hotel Dolphines is also good for the price 25$ per night and all food included , its a nice clean Hotel with good food at a Budget price close by the Town Center and beach.

But I was not impressed with San Andres , old and dusty, I would Advise Providencia , Rosario Islands , Nuqui or Isla Palma(Decameroon) THE LATER BEING THE BEST OF THE BUNCH.

Getting to San Andres- alternatives? Any alternatives such as boats or cruise lines from Coastal Colombia, going to San Andres, besides air travel?

Sol Caribe Campo Agree with gringoinbogota's above note.

If you essentially are after a hotel resort featuring a nice beach, Sol Caribe Campo, is for sure a good choice! I was there myself in January this year, and the beach is just great! It is actually nicer to take a walk down to the beach over the shuttle, takes 10 mins.

They claim being a world class all inclusive hotel, which indeed should be questioned. It has a few notches to go reach up to other Caribbean island resorts (mainly visited by Americans and Europeans -- putting high demands on service). On the other hand, prices are very affordable and the beach takes it all! GiB's photos endorse that!
