I remember reading somewhere (I think here) that there was a marriage loophole for the Colombian islands that made it much easier to marry a Colombian if you married there. Is this true? If so, does anyone know the details on what this entails? It's a real hassle on the mainland I know that for sure.

eafit2005 says on Jul 31, 2008, 00:22: I married my wife on the San Andres Island because you only need your passport to marry and no other documents. It easy, just call the only notariat on the island to arrange the date. So far the marriage there is even recognised by the German Embassy (my wife later easily got her visa for Germany). I don`t know however, if the marriage in Sand Andres is recognised by other embassies. However, If the purpose is to stay in Colombia (apart from love, of course ;-), then it works!

Keep in mind your Colombian does need the same paperwork that she would need if married n teh mainland but for you just your passport. Good luck! Oh and it will be just as official as any other Colombian wedding as far as how the embassies will recognize it.
