San Agustin

I will be coming up from ecuador and planning to go to San Agustin. does anyone know if it is faster to get to San Agustin from Popayan or Pasto?

Both routes are going to be slow. From Popayan, the highway runs through a beautiful stretch of montaine forest in a national park, but the journey itself takes 8 hours plus. The highway had been under the control of FARC until 2-3 years ago. Heavy military presence on the highway. The faster route with the significantly better highway is from Neiva, but that is in the direction opposite from where you are coming.

i went from popayan and the journey is amazing, the road does get a bit ragged but nothing compared to all the roads in bolivia and the bus journey from cuzco to lima, jesus christo !

enjoy the scenery, stay a few days, visit the museum there yourself and get a guide to go horseriding or in a jeep with a few others to see las cascades y las ruinas......take pics from the bus windows of the great journey but hold onto your camera matey....

your route is ecuador - rumchaca - ipiales (dont miss las lajas), pasto - san agustin - neiva (desierto de tatacoa).....my suggestion coming from your way..
