Last March I traveled to Colombia and my spanish was "colombian" of course, then, at work with one of my friends, he said "Hola Gabo como te fué" and I told him "Bien, que mas?" ... he looked at me and said "que más de qué pendejo?"

Oops I had to apologize for the meaning in mexican but I had to explained the meaning in Colombian... he understood and we were friends again hehehehehehe

One of my mexican friends ( a girl ) went to Bogota too, she drank too much aguardiente and got drunk, the next day I asked her "que tal el guayabo?" she looked at me, blushed and said "tan borracha estaba que no lo sentí" in Mexico "guayabo" means to have sex while "cruda" is the same as "guayabo" in colombian. LOL

I admire every single person whose mother tongue is not spanish and succeed in learning it... for the rest of the people who try hard every day to learn it my respects as well.

Just another one. The truly "bogotano" or "rolo" (paisa land guys thought that´s despective) or "cachaco", (the caribeans or "motilones", "costeños", thought that´s despective too). . . In my city, Bogotá, it quite normal use "que" instead of "tu". A few examples:

all the next expressions means the same ---> How do you do?

Qué mas? ---> In a informal way. Only used if you know the person already.
Cómo ha estado? ---> Way too inpersonal. Some aquintance.
Qué cuenta? ---> A friendly way to say "how do you do?"
Quiubo¡ ---> Short way to say "que hubo?", free loaders and bumps us that

With the exception of "gordita" almost all the Spanish words you listed are used in English, too. And for the ones that are a little more complex, what's the difference, really, between "corazon de melon" and "apple of my eye?"

Futher, I can look at a Thanksgiving or Christmas feast and with the right tone make a pet name of just about every food (my little mashed potato, my green bean, pumpkin, pumpkin head, and so on)...then head out to the garden (flowers) and the barn (animals) or look off into the distance (geographic features and the heavens). The possibilities are endless!

I disagree. Ninety per cent of the time people call each other "mi amor". It's always "mi amor" which after a while is boring - it almost becomes the other person's name which I guess makes it easier if you have a lot of lovers - they can all be "mi amor" and you never have to remember anybody's name.

However, my rola information source says she always knew chocha as a bad word for vagina, and chucha was body odor. So that is pretty consistent with my education in Miami. It is interesting, because the people I learned chocha from were Cuba, Mexican, and Puerto Rican. The Colombian costenos must have their own pronounciation and spelling of the word, with "chucha." My source also said she has never heard the word punani. (sp?)

When I was in Santo Domingo on business, I went out to lunch with my customers. They had some sort of Dominican sancocho at El Conuco restaurant, so I asked them:

I had never heard the expression and thought it meant "what a pain you are" rather than "what a nuisance I must be to you". Since I was raised using Colombian Spanish, I was quite surprised when a relatively new Mexican friend told me "Vamos a salir en bola". I was a little taken aback until he explained it to me.

Also, in Mexico "Antro" usually means any night spot or bar, whereas in many other countries "Antro" specifically means a real dive or nasty night spot.

That lunch dragged on for 5 and a half hours and included a series of lascivous looks and laughs.

Later on I was conducting a training seminar about 20 users and one of the guys brought up the chocha story to my audience, which included the VP and the owner's daughter. They were laughing to no end and I wanted to run out of the conference room.
