I am considering a trip to Medellin mid-january from EEUU. I have a friend who is from that area and speaks highly of the region and of course the women. I intend to stay in Sector Poblado (don't know much about this area). I have 12 days, but am open to other areas of Colombia or South America if opportunities arise. Or perhaps January is not a good time to visit.
Mainly I intend to experience the culture, but I would like to spend time in a variety of activities, I'm hispanic and tend to blend in, and foremost on my list are:
1) Practicing Salsa Dancing - My friend mentions that the best dancers are in Cali, but that Cali is not as interesting as Medellin. Are there Salsa Clubs in Medellin? Any recommendations? What about instructors (local styles).
2) Practice my spanish - This will be a great opportunity and will be easily accomplished.
3) Museums, local artists, people - I would like to leave with a feeling that I understand the people and culture of the areas I visit.
Thanks in advance for suggestions

He says all you guys pumping up Medellin are fabricating things and you're all a bunch of imposter posters. Who are you gonna believe? Your friend? Or Greg, who actually went to Medellin and accomplished absolutely nothing, thereby disproving once and for all, the hype about Medellin. He says there aren't any women there, and if there are, they hate gringos. And if they don't actually hate gringos, they won't leave for the US with them on the next plane. Unlike the girls from Cali who will. So there. He'll be pissed that you're there and want to kick tu culo. BTW, January is a great time to visit. They have the last minute sales and reductions before Colombia closes for inventory in February. It's a good thing that you've changed your mind about Medellin - Greg would be proud of you.
