There have been a few posts on this but no one has ever actually provided an address or phone number. Can anyone provide this information? Thanks.

Well, there is no salsa in Medellin. Yeah, you can probably find some basic classes but it's just not here. I've studied Cuban Salsa for 3 years in Florida. All I keep running into is basic Salsa here in Medellin. If that's good for you, there are plenty of places. Now, if you really, really want to learn the best Salsa in the world, I suggest you go to Cuba or maybe do a little research and find some great Cuban places in Florida. Just my humble opinion......

I did not know that, but it's always good to know. Is it me, or does it seem everyone and their mother in Medellin can get you whatever you need, whatever it may be?

chrispej,
Any suggestions for clubs where locals go to dance salsa?

I have only been two a few clubs in Medellin and was surprised that the paisas can't dance, especially for being latino/hispanic. Now, I'm not saying they all can't dance, but just all the ones I saw on the dance floor.

I would love to find a little salsa club for my next trip.

chrispej, are we really operating under the assumption that a city in the middle of a mountain range is possibly going to have better dancers than an island in the Carribbean? No way man.

What Medellín does bring though, is a greater variety of music on dancefloors here than at least I experienced in Cuba.

Back to the goal of the original post though, I can´t recommend any particular salsa classes, I got only as far as crashing one at the SENA (literally one of those, Estadounidense walks into the room and the music stops sort of experiences), but really the key is listening for the basic rhythm which is found in most salsa tunes, getting a basic sense of the footwork and then stop worrying from there. Cap_J, I´m not sure how rhythmically inclined you are, but I think the big challenge is accepting that you´re (or I´m, if you will) probably never going to look as cool as the other lcoal dancers and just going with it. As crispej accurately points out, standards are not necessarily very high for in Medellín for salsa dancers, so don´t sweat it, just wave your arms a bit and enjoy it.

It´s also highly recommended that you link up with a (patient) dancing partner who knows what they´re doing, preferably someone who´s lived in Cali, and just go out and learn experientially with them. Once you get a subconscious ear for the rhythm, you´re set.

yellow pages....
I went to a salas course in Bello once, because the private lessons are way cheaper there than in Poblado....don`t remember the name of the school, however....one block from the "Parque de Bello".
