My understanding is that if you offering straightforward accounting services like bookkeeping or audit then join the queue with the hundreds of other people. A report in 2003 (or 2004 I can't remember exactly) on the accounting profession in Colombia stated that supply outstripped demand by 100%.

However, if you have a specific skill and wanted to apply that e.g. experience of IFRS or as the user says US taxation it might be a different matter.

You posted on Septeber 5,......."and i dont understand spanish."

If you do NOT speak Spanish or understand Spanish you have no chance.

"as a waitress, you can get up to $150 a night" That's about $300.000 peso a night and for a five day work week $1.500.000 a week. No Colombian would allow you to muscle into that nor would the Colombian labor administration grant you a work visa.

I would take a deap breath and either stay in Australia or return to INDIA. Last but not least, have you obtain a visa-Indian national are NOT admitted, even as tourists, without a valid visa.

Last but not least, Is you a troll?????

how about you stop perpetuating stereotypes ..... if you are a stingy tight arse that is your business!

"Colombian mentality is very similar to the Jewish mentality, we like to pay little for a job well done, and trust me, we get it done correctly."

I am Jewish and Colombian and have never bargained for anything in my life, generally I believe you get what you pay for..... you want cheap shit you will get cheap shit.

As for Colombians paying $150 for something, it depends on how much they need it, $150 is alot of money here, Considering an average salary is around $500.00 a month so either you need to go for rich areas and clientelle, or drop your price somewhat.

I will give you an example. A specialist doctor charges 80 000 pesos or around $40 for a consultation..... that consultation can last anywhere from 5 minutes to half an hour, here that is good money.

my 2`pesos-As an overly qualified accountant, who has ruminated on this very thing, good luck if you have to ask here if 150 is too much....

After asking many people on PBH about business, and talking to the large brood my wife came from, in Bogota, (all are professionals), it is quite apparent, that it will take a lot of time and effort to get the consulting ball rolling, in Colombia..

Why, besides needing to be credentialed in the Colombian equivalent of a CPA, (as above), understanding the Colombian tax law, (which taxes are a part of every fininancial decision), finding a niche that is value added, (can't get the info from the internet, family and friends-hence they have to pay for it), You have to take time to DEVELOP RELATIONSHIPS. You can try to sell your services, (though selling yourself may be more lucerative), but you are going to hear alot, that, "My brother's friend's, uncle's sons, nephew knows a guy that sounds pretty good to work with"

If you want to consult, find a niche with an american country, (if qualified, and you decide to learn spanish,) that provides consulting... KPMG, Deloitte, ETC.

a jewish colombiana? hmmm thats a mix I would like to see!! Not a converted Jew, No, a big nosed jew from NY hooking up with a gorgeous Colombiana- Their daughter!! thats what I want to see!! Some jewish girls are gorgeous and mix that with Colombian blood, we would have to start a new country, Jewlombia.....and only allow jewlombians in for 4 or 5 generations, Then only let over aged, pot bellied gringos in, by lottery.....I think, besides the fountain of youth, it would be heaven on earth!!!

If I understood correctly, I don't think this guy is looking for work as a consultant. I'm guessing a bit, but I think he is asking whether someone who works as a financial consultant in Barranquilla (i.e. his girlfriend) would likely be able to pay the $150 tax that DIAN is asking for the computer that the guy sent to her. (he posted about the computer also).

That is, is his girlfriend likely making bags of money as a financial consultant and can easily pay the tax or is she being honest and can't afford the $150? Who kows??

In Colombia you must understand one rule before getting into any business: Sin palanca = No $$$

and besides that you don´t have family here, you don´t even speak the language? Well, let me wish you good luck with your ventures.

Maybe you could walk elmo in the park (he barks pretty good English), but since I believe he gets this service for free in NYC I doubt he would pay for it when in Barranquilla.
