my plan is ,if the judges here ever go back to work and i get sorted out ,is to leave from here sail back to the uk ,settle up there, then head off towards oz,no time limit,3 to 4 years i feel .
im asking about these 2 boats now,
http://www.theyachtmarket.com/viewboat.aspx?boatID=30381&searchid=&pag...
and this one
both say they are fully loaded to go any where
http://www.sailing-boats-for-sale.com/sail_boat_30400.aspx
as i will be on my own most of the time ,i need a boat i can handle on my own,but also gives a bit of comfort,
i have been reading about these 2 young couple from usa ,that have done what i intend doing makes good reading ,the link is here.
http://www.bumfuzzle.com/Pages/2003/2003_10.html
this is what i want to do, but if you read it without the pizzas.....lol.
any advice will be a great help.

ujay,
Newer cats can be complicated, twin engines, lots of small and large items that need attention and can break in a marine environment - roller furling mains, steering quadrants, refrigiration ect...
You say you will be by yourself most of the time, don't know why you want a boat with 4 cabins then. Cats are not the easiest to dock by yourself either, very beamy and sometimes light and highsided so docking in a cross current and a breeze can be a bit of an adventure(even with twin engines)
My suggestion is to go ith a 30-34 foot ocean going monohull, maybe an older Pacific Seacraft or something along those lines. Moderate rig, a lilltle on the heavy side, roller furling headsail(but not mainsail). Look for a protected rudder, moderate beam and a large enough engine to push you into the harbor when the tide and wind is against you.

Just some thoughts.

Gringo Spy,
This won't help the original poster's question, but if I had a choice and a hefty budget and a couple of crewmates I would get me one of the new fast cats that they build in S Africa.
Don't confuse them with the heavier cats that are mostly used in Charter ops, theses are fairly lightweight lots of sail area with a little more spartan accomodations. They are fast enough to outrun lots of weather and the faster you can cross a body of water the less chance you have of getting caught out in the sh*t. I would not single hand one though and would have a good life raft, if you roll one or pitchpole it it would be coming back over.

thats a great boat,more like a passengerliner,ive not won the lotto,lol,
and running on fuel all the time cost too much, plus when you dock cost more being 2 times bigger.but it does look nice ,i will take a look at these Passage Maker, get back to you later.

If you're looking for a used boat there's a place in San Carlos, Sonora, Mexico known as the Marina of Broken Dreams.

http://www.sancarlosmexico.com/

It seems that many people from the USA wash up there once their dream of sailing around the world evaporates a few weeks after leaving Southern California.

They are unprepared/under capitolised/just too damned incompetent-as Bill mentions-the boat ends up on the hear awaiting new owners/their dreams.

Where do you want to buy UJ? In Colombia - like Cartagena, Bquilla, Santa Marta? If so, it is quite possible something you may be interested in will be there in January or February.
