Safety of the road Bogota-Bucaramanga

Helly

My american boyfriend (who doesnt look that much "gringo") and I want to travel from Bogota to Bucaramanga by Bus, stopping in Boyaca so we can see Villa de Leiva, Tunja, Duitama, Paipa, and stopping in Sangil so we can see Barichara.

I've been asking friends and the most of them have tell me it is a safe trip, but I want to know if someone here has done it or if someone is got any recommendations

Thanks

Silvia

Safe I live in San Gil. Blonde haired Aussie, stand out a mile away caught that bus around 6 times never had a problem. I have a hostal here and 5-6 foriegn guests from my place take this bus a week without problems. On top of this is the 5-6 a day coming from the coast to bogota and not stopping. The area of San Gil and Barichara is very safe.

Easter weekend is very busy here so make sure to book accomodation. Same goes for the other small towns you will be visiting

The last 2 hours from San Gil to Bucaramanga is nice, try and sit on the right hand side.

I have a mixed group of foriegners and Colombians staying over easter and we are organising a rafting trip on one of the bigger rivers. If you would like to join us let me know, its a bit more fun than the small river in town.

Have a nice trip

10 hrs. Damn!!! A couple months ago I made it from B/manga to Btá in 7 hrs in a bus. If you take a bus that goes through Tunja it takes longer. If you don't plan to stop in Boyaca, take the smallest bus you can and go through Chiquinquirá, it's way faster. On the way there, our busetica stopped in Socorro to eat dinner, as we were leaving, one of those huge-ass buses pulled in to eat. They had left Bogota an hour and a half BEFORE us.
