You don't seriously think that this map allows for accurate comparisons, do you? They've picked a handful of incidents at random and posted them. The site is interesting but not comprehensive; just because there are many American "hits" but only one Colombian one.

It's probably doesn't but it's flashy! And somewhat amusing when foul odors at an Iowa City mall are listed as a global incident!

It may not be of much help for security on a day to day basis, but it could be useful as a record of some of the main (terror-related) incidents, if it's updated consistently enough. Not much else though.

However, there's one big mistake / omission there that immediately comes to mind:

The Nestlé plant that got blown up is in Caquetá, not in Bogotá, as the database implies. Big difference.

I dunno... The U.S.A. looks like a pretty dangerous place. I think I'll head down to Colombia where there are fewer incidents.

Of course, Cali is the only place I've been, so far, where I've actually heard a bomb go off. Spooky....

But, hey, just by living, you have a 100% chance of dying, sooner or later, so you might as well make the best of the time you have.

In fact the more you live, the more liklier you are to die sooner. With a proper risk assessment, it makes it difficult justifying getting up in the morning.

Some funny and interesting comments! I don't know if they ever discovered the cause of the foul odor at the Iowa City mall. At any rate it just doesn't seem to rank up there with most of those other global incidents...

Considering that the chances of you dying (?)... while on vacation are probably a million to one, then going to a place that's twice as dangerous as the average, means that your chances increase to 500,000 to one. Wouldn't you have a whole lot of other things to really worry about? That's not to say you shouldn't be aware of your surroundings and act accordingly.

Dying??? Who mentioned dying? I just posted the link to this website because it shows a lot is going on in the world. Colombia is not the epicenter of world violence. And even though this is probably not the most accurate site, Colombia isn't pasted all over with disaster and terrorism icons.

If you are making a connection between this post and the one about the hotel, I am simply asking those questions so that I will know what to expect...part of being AWARE of your environment I would think. :)

Yee, I just thought that when the discussion centered ... around safety, the ultimate manifestation would revolve around living or dying. And my point is that the possibility dying is so remote (as long as you are not an idiot)that you should not let it consume you and ruin your vacation or whatever. As to the other post you mention, I have no idea what you are talking about.

You're right. Dying really ruins a vacation.

Disclaimer: any comment I make is inane and is not to be taken seriously, and is so patently ridiculous that no one should take it seriously, even as an insult.
