Safety during Colombian elections

I am soon embarking on a trip to Colombia. I am currently in Venezuela I need to get to Quito and thought I could travel through Colombia and visit its wonderful sites. Can anyone advice me on the current situation with safety in terms of the coming elections on the 28 May and the anniversary of the founding of the FARC a day earlier. I planned to reach Cartagena from Venezuela, then head down to Medellin and Cali before crossing the border into Ecuador. How difficult is this journey? Having planned to go by bus i realise i should do it by plane. I am a 22 years old, english, speak very good spanish but am very blond and blue eyed! Would really appreciate some sound advice from anyone who could help. What is the situation on Buses from one city to another and is it a stupid risk not worth taking??

Your trip well I will say that as long as you stay in the cities it will be safe .. and yes for sure do not take any buses to go from one city to another it will be cheaper but is more safe to do it by plane!!!
Hope you have a great time there!!!
