Safety around Calle Argentina/Oriental in Medellin

Hey all,
Getting ready for the move in December and looking at apartments. One of the frequent posters on this site (I won't mention who in case the replies aren't favorable) has a place on Calle Argentina close to Calle Oriental (about 5 min. walk from Plaza de Botero). The price is good but I'm a little reluctant to live in the city (Obviously, don't want to have to be looking over my shoulder if I'm out past 9pm). Anyone have any feedback about the safety in this specific area? Right now, I think I'm leaning towards paying a little more for something in Envigado, Laureles, or Poblado.

thanks,
joe.

Joe,
I don't think that you Joe,
I don't think that you want to live in Centro. Yes, prices can be good, but the surrounding... it is not something I would like to handle everyday. About security, I stayed in a cheap hotel there for two weeks, while working on my penthouse in El Poblado. Never had a problem, I was out nightime, too. But, of course, you always have to keep eyes wide open. And none really wants to live like that... expecially if moving from the States to live better in Colombia.
By the way... have you been out walking at night in Centro? I mean, do you know how it looks like?

jh816 I agree with robi666, not a area I would like to live in.

What I thought No, when I was in Medellin last I pretty much kept to Poblado for anything at night so I really didn't get a chance to see el centro at night. Through talking with others and a nighttime taxi through el centro in Cali (you know its bad when the taxista is nervous), I kind of figured it was a no go, but just wanted confirmation.
thanks.
joe.

5 minutes away from Plaza de Botero, in the wrong direction, in the day is kind of scary.

Good Lucky,

Let us know what you find. I may be looking as well.
