Safe to travel by car from Bogota to Medellin?

Just curious is it safe to travel by car from Bogota to Medellin with a Colombian friend?

I made the trip twice not long ago. I'm more conservative than some here. I suggest doing it by day, starting as early as you can.

Try to be more patient than the average driver when considering passing slower trucks. Folks here are extremely inpatient. They rush to pass, taking more risk than necessary, then end up behind the next slow truck anyway. Just wait for the best moment and let the rest risk their lives.
