Sad Video, However True

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dzlnE8emA7w

OK, So I post more sad realities. This is a very common scenario. The only problem is they left out a few countries where Colombianas seem to be in demand (Aruba for example)Where does the problem begin? How do you end it?

Request: Please don't move the video, so it gets burried in one of the other sections. Let it stay here so discussion can ensue. We have enough threads on "Making Arepas", and "Inexpensive hotels in Bogota"

Uh, G-man It's a MUSIC video. Next shall we discuss the problem of rascism in the US by viewing Snoop Dogg video?

If there weren't so much prostitution in Colombia I'd be more inclined to say there's a big problem with "human trafficking" but what I really suspect is that Colombian prostitutes, like Colombians in many other professions, like to travel to where the wages are higher.

I'm sure there are cases where women are "fooled" into thinking they're moving to Japan or Aruba or wherever to work a straight job, but I don't think that's the majority.

Gomezman5 says on Jan 28, 2007, 15:56:

Yea ......So what? Where have you been Hollywood? Are you suggesting that music videos don't convey powerfull messages? What world have you lived in? Music has probably been one of the best mediums to make a commentary about society. We're not talking about racism in the US. That video would not belong here would it? You have a strange, and, may I add, a rather non responsive manner of addressing the issue.

Human trafficing is not so much the issue. Colombianas in Central American and Costa Rica are not trafficed. Did you understand the song? The song's message did not maketrafficing THE issue? Women who decide to be putas in Panama and Costa Rica, go there with glee on their own volition. So where does the trafficing element come in. In fact, in the case of Panama, officials there have their radars up for some whorish looking girl traveling from Colombia to Panama. In other words, they profile. If you look like a puta, you are in the right range, you are traveling alone, a non verifiable employment situation, and you have next to no money, Panama will not let you in. Oh to be sure, many do get in. Many don't

It's just a sad situation when men in the US go down to Costa Rica and tell me how a majority of the girls working there are ......you guessed it ...Colombian. In fact, they think they're are more Colombians than Costa Rican women. By the way, Dominicanas are high on the list too.

Gomezman5 says on Jan 28, 2007, 18:43:

Believe me..... It angers me to no end when I run into a Gringo that tells me that he found out how beautiful the "Colombian chicks" are when he went dove hunting in Costa Rica. I did NOT have to ask for more details. I knew, and every Colombian knows what they were referring to. They hunted doves by day, and Colombianitas at night. I don't know how well they scored in their daytime hunting, but I'm certain they scored well at night. Simon, monpirri, Billyb, and of course Juanalejo, can tell me how I am making Colombian girls look bad. If they see that as my intent....to bad. My point is that is that burying your head in the sand, only perpetuates the problem. It does little to resolve it.

As to Hollywood.......I don't even think he believes what he wrote above. He is old enough to understand what symbolism is conveyed through music. He has an agenda, that of late, has backfied and only makes him look bad. It's called being contrary. It's OK to be contrary, but goodness don't be contrary merely for the sake of being contrary. To say "It's music", and then even though there are written inserts stating sad facts, and then pretend that there is no message is......well...that's Hollywood. Enough said.

Hey, it's no different here. Here in Chicago, the Mexican neighborhoods are filled with these little apartments that serve as whore houses. Two girls, sometimes three work in each of them. They change girls every week. Who is the largest group of women that work there? You would think Mexican girls right, after all there are about 150 times as many Mexican women here as Colombian women. But.....no way, the girls are almost entirely Colombian and Dominican. It's in the culture. No question about it. Sure, there are those that get properly raised ....taught good from bad, right from wrong, like Kat's children, but that sure as hell is not the typical case.

The movie states what most Colombian know. Like it or not.

Mr. Hollywood says on Jan 28, 2007, 19:56:

Actually, G5 Maybe it's you who didn't understand the video. It had written titles within seconds of the beginning talking about how many people have been trafficked out of Colombia. And they repeat with various statistics throughout.

I'm not being "contrary", I'm saying flat out that I don't think the Colombian "human trafficking" issue is as bad as it's made out to be. I think most Colombians working as hookers in Costa Rica or wherever know EXACTLY what they're going there to do.

Now, if you're saying it's sad that some women need to resort to selling sex as a means to support themselves or their families, then that's something different. But that should apply equally for the prostitutes working in Colombia, like at your buddy's Whiskeria that you like to talk about visiting.

Gomezman5 says on Jan 28, 2007, 20:44:

I have no problem with my friend and his wiskeria. It's an honest living for both him and the girls working there no?

As to the trafficing issue, yea it references that, but what I am saying is that I don't think they were being misled. You focusing on the trafficing aspect. I am focusing on the fact that the girls are doing it period and that they are trafficing themselves, and not being trafficed by others You are not going to make anyone on this board believe that these girls are being fooled into moving to Costa Rica, Panama, or similar thinking they were going to get well paying legitimate jobs. I guess what I am saying is that as long as it stays in Colombia, I don't care. The economy is what it is. It's when they come over here to the states or Costa Rica, and the Mexicans and Gringos respectively start thinking that Colombian women are a bunch of whores. Your average Mexican in Chicago never runs into a Colombian woman unless he visits one of the local brothels here. The only exception to that is the Colombian business owners, that prefer to hire Mexicans in their restaurnts, auto repairs shops and alike, because they claim they are better employees (more reliable etc).

In summary, there just seems to be a propensity for my Colombian women to resort to prostitution not only in Colombia, but in other countrys as well.

Mr. Hollywood says on Jan 28, 2007, 21:12:

Okay then Well, thanks for explaining your concern, even if that wasn't what the video seems to be about.

I agree with G5 that the sex industry is an honest living for most people working in it, certainly as honest as many other businesses.

Serious question: Why do you think it is that there are so many Colombian women working as hookers around the world? A lot of people say the Colombian economy is to blame, but there's just as much or more poverty in a lot of other countries and you don't see, just for example, thousands of Peruvians working as prostitutes around the globe.

utopiacowboy says on Jan 28, 2007, 21:50:

Cuidado, G5, you're gonna get Monpirri on your case. Not that he isn't already. Mr. Hollywood's question is an interesting one but don't expect any honest answers here on PBSH. If you check the world sex guide there is now a thread about Colombian prostitutes in Hong Kong. It seems that they are becoming world renowned. Is this better than being famous for cocaine trafficing?

Disclaimer: any comment I make is inane and is not to be taken seriously, and is so patently ridiculous that no one should take it seriously, even as an insult.

Question the argument here seems to be the overabundance of colombianas in the industry. anyone want to guestimate how many gringa working girls in the U.S. (a population of 300 million) there are? seems to me according to the answers that follow is that the real question is a mix of supply and demand interjected with some outsourcing logic.

* costa rica and panama and the island groups are not even legitimate arguments as Colombia boasts 40 some odd million population.

* what about the brazilians. no one mentions the brazilians. although i hear alot about brazilian female sexuality. that's because they are more nationalized in a leading latin american economy. a similar trait as american working girls, only 50 million or so less.

* isn't the question really about populations, economical state of the homeland and classic supply demand theory? i would really love to hear a solid cultural arguments here as it strikes curiosity in me.

* the song was actually pretty good according to U.S. based rock standards in my book. maybe they(the band) can be exploited too. americans sure love sex, drugs and rock and roll. Colombia seems to be perfect for all three.

* is that a cultural thing or a more academic scenario? i don't know myself. it just seems to me that Colombians by nature seem to have more "on the ball" than other latin and south american countries.

* this should make for an interesting thread to say the least................ man, i love rock and roll!

Sad but true I have a neighbor in Medellin whom I despise. Matriarchal bitch with a husband with a perfect Al Pacino scarface voice thinks she´s helping when she traffics girls out of Colombia to Guatemala, Costa Rica, Panama, etc. They pay for the flight, room, board and surgeries and make their money on the exhorbatabt interest rates and take a cut of the working girl´s take and the daughter is the madam in Guatemala. Many girls did make some money but let´s keep hush about the 2 beauties that got kidnapped and brought to the middle east as sex slaves never to be heard from again. I found out about them because I dated/befriended a girl who once worked for her and this low life bitch had the balls to come to my place out of ther blue to ask me if I´d pay this girl´s debt and once tried to force her way upstairs in my business to my office because she thought the girl was hiding up there. I literally threw her out by her hair. Her husband came rushing up the street wonerding why I was so mean to her to wit I told him I despise what they do, and that (truthfully as I did my homework), that DAS already knows what they´re doing, and if that bitch sets foot on my property again I am rolling a 100lb pipeta of gas down the block to their house and blowing it up. He looked at me funny and just said let´s take it easy, let´s stay out of each other´s hair and left. Thankfully I haven´t seen them around the neighborhood in as long time. I hope they´re in hiding, in jail or dead.

If you think this does not happen here then well your view on Colombia is different than mine.

GIB just got some writing skills with violence, murders, robberies, mafia, killings, kidnapping etc.

My view on Colombia is way too different. Women get into the oldest profession in the world, for a few reasons:

They need the money to pay university.

They got spoiled at one time from parents, wealthy older partners and by "new millonarios" and got expensive habits then need the money.

Single mothers without education and skills to get a "decent" wage.

Some because they like it.

I know a place where these girls contact some one in Aruba, they sent pictures and had to pay USD 300 for visa purposes, pay their ticket if approved and go work for 3 months.

They are not forced to do it and their family is not going to be killed if they don't go.

Gomezman5,
En Colombia la ropa sucia se lava en casa. This is not new. Granted some girls might go voluntaliry but it is shown on TV that sometimes once overseas the host takes away their passports and documents and force them to do more than they were willing to do.

As for the amount of Colombianas working abroad on the sex trade, they got such a "good fama" that I would not doubt women from other countries also in the trade will change nationality in the heat of the moment.

This colaboration from GM5 in my opinion is better.

Mr. Hollywood says on Jan 30, 2007, 10:40:

A couple things about the "slave trade" Look, human trafficking is real, but I'll venture that the VAST MAJORITY of Colombian prostitutes working abroad are there of their own free will, not being held at gunpoint.

The cases where you see the worst abuses of women are the ones where there's a huge cultural and language barrier between the women and the culture they're in. For example, it's really hard to break from your pimp if you're a Colombian in Japan and don't speak the language or a Korean in Canada being held locked in a house in Montreal. But a Colombiana in Los Angeles or Guatemala is just another fish in a sea of Spanish speaking folks and can get help if needed.

The example Spigrimace gave of his mafioso neighbor is actually very illuminating because, while if we accept all the facts as accurate what's clear is that these people are exploiting both the naivete and greed of the women they "help" but they're not trafficking. Anyone who agrees to take on loan shark debt get a boob job so she can get more clients is NOT a victim of trafficing.

If you look at places like Bahrain in the Persian gulf, they're actually having to take strict immigration measures to keep from getting flooded with Russian and other eastern bloc prostitutes who are desperate to get IN because they can make such good money.
