Rumbear en Medellín

I was just wondering, what type of music people dance to in Medellín. Cali is famous for salsa. From Medellín I only heared that there is some barrio where they dance Tango. Probably Vallenato is popular in Medellín as it is all over Colombia, but that's not really a type of music to dance to in a club.
I like dancing Merengue and Cumbia & would like to learn Salsa....so how is Medellín in that respect???

Any input appreciated! ....well utopiacowboy....if you answer, maybe leave the disclaimer out...somehow you posts make more sense then ;-)

Take Care!

That depends There are all types of sites in medellin to party. There are "crossover" Clubs where they have 15 minutes of Dance music, then another 15 minutes of what people call here "tropical" music, then 10 minutes of that thing called Reggaeton, then another 15 of pop music. It all depends where you go. Some clubs play only Salsa, others only Vallenato, there´s plenty to choose from.
The places where you´ll be partying are:

- Las Palmas: a highway that goes from the San Diego Mall to El Poblado, there are many clubs, restaurants and cafes along the way
- Zona Rosa - Parque Lleras: many cafes, bars, small clubs

Thanks! Sounds good...guess I will be able to learn some salsa there.
Not that I don't like rock, pop or other music more common in Europe but I can listen to that here in Germany. But then, when wil I get the opportunity again to learn salsa dancing with women who really know how to move to such rythm...
I just found an apartment near the Oviedo mall in Poblado. I'll drop you some lines once I'm there & have internet!

Music from the 80's You might be surprised how many places play 80's pop music from the U.S. and Europe. Mostly the small bars that don't have a dance floor, but it's a nice place to visit if you are feeling a little home-sick. You will find that you will not be the only person that knows the words to the songs also.
