Rugby in Colombia?

Does anybody out there know if there are any rugby clubs in Colombia? What about the state of the game there - is it at all popular? I will miss it when I move over there and am hoping that in or around Bucaramanga (where I plan to move to) there might be a club or two. If not, I hope to go to Bogota to watch some matches!

P.S. I do love my football (soccer!) as well and will have to suffer watching Atletico Bucaramanga as well as catching some rugby I hope!

hi Martin, i'm no expert, but i think a lot of the universities play rugby against each other...i met a few rich kids in medellin who played.

anyway, i think the team in Bucaramanga are called las aguilas, hopefully like the rolos, they get some sort of beer sponsorship due to their name. here is an article making reference to them playing. http://www.vanguardia.com/archivo/5081-las-aguilas-taclearon-y-cazaron...

lastly, are you a celtic fan? Hope so! :)

I am - used to stand in the jungle with all the other bhoys! I left Glasgow tho' in 1994 and have never really bothered about it since then - i can't be bothered with the hassle surrounding all the "Old Firm" fans. I lived in London and now Newcastle and never had anybody bother me about "What team do you support?"

I still watch for their results tho and made a special visit to Sevill in 2003 for the UEFA Final

Are you living in Colombia?

i'm 25 and it's one of my big regrets that i was never able to stand in the jungle...before the reconstruction, my parents, my brother and I would either be in the celtic end or the family stand...

anyway, yeah i was living in Medellin and i'm returning very soon. i really love it there and i've been trying to think of various ideas to supplement an income if i was to live there permanently-renting out rooms, imports/exports. you're taxi idea seemed good, though personally i don't have that much money to do everything i'd like to :)

when i'm abroad, find channel67 can be pretty useful if you have a good internet connection. with a slow one, it can be infuriating :) anyway, hope everything goes well and i'm sure i'll speak to you at some point

There is a very healthy rugby scene in Medellin with the universities playing each other. Many ex pats play for EAFIT university.
Recently a programme has started teaching rugby to kids in the poorer barrios with the intention of helping them to develop self esteem and a sense of teamwork,I understand it has been successful.
As an aside ESPN chanel show the Tri nations series, the 6 nations,Heineken cup and the recent Lions series.
