Yep, those brits want to keep the cost of bandwidth down. I'd never seen this before. Maybe there is something on Utube? Whats the name?

Hot Dog, the Colombian video is on Utube. 5 parts

Ross gets around, can you believe it !! He's documentated gangs in many places. Guess we'll need to wait for Colombia

kat1 (Moderator) says on Oct 16, 2007, 10:32:

Now this was what the episode was about "For forty years Colombia has been embroiled in civil war as paramilitary and guerilla forces fight for control. What isn't widely known is the part gangs play in this conflict and Ross meets with the most secretive of them all, the Sicarios. These small groups, mostly under the employ of the paramilitaries, operate as 'hit-squads', killing whoever is considered a threat."

They showed Medellin and Cartagena but the ugliest parts, typical!

Another thing I didn't know the sicarios were employ by the paramilitaries? I thought they were independent,

Medellin Traveler says on Oct 16, 2007, 13:51:

Ross Kemp's video are all about "Ross Kemp" and how brave he is for going into these "dangerous" places and recording the "facts" for you.

He never asks the right questions, or questions that many want answers to. As far as I'm concerned, he's a shameless self-promoter.

I saw his MS13 series and felt the same then as I do after watching his Medellin gang video.

I would never share these videos with anyone I know.

Medellin es una chimba! www.medellintraveler.com

Mr. Hollywood says on Oct 16, 2007, 15:11:

I've never heard of the guy before but it certainly seems he fires before aiming. In first 5 mins he's already confused Escobar, the AUC, the Guerillas and plain old hired hit-men.

eywed says on Oct 16, 2007, 16:05:

Medellin Traveler- Why not share these Videos with people you know. Let peopele make up there own minds and may be dig for more truth. Pardon but It seems you dont care to much for bad news on Colombia. I think you should pass on both good news and bad news so folks are informed and see diffrent points of view. Travelers should know whats going on around them. A more informed traveler is a safer traveler. Or as Bazucojoe Says" Scare the gringos" so they may not come to Colombia.

Ay Hombe!!!!!

Medellin Traveler says on Oct 16, 2007, 16:19:

Funny Colombians have commented that all I do is show the bad part of Colombia and now you comment that I only show the good.

If I could find the post on PBH ending something like "You have to show the good with the bad, it's only fair." you will see that I make sure to show both sides, more important all sides.

The reason I would not show that video to my friends is that its more about "Ross Kemp" and not about his concerns for the truth or for solutions to the violence.

He's a TOOL!

I would tell my friends to watch La Virgen de Sicarios, La Sierra and The Pablo Escobar series. As a filmmaker I'm very sensitive to CRAP!!

Hopefully you don't think that I'm only promoting the "good" side of Colombia.

Medellin es una chimba! www.medellintraveler.com

RAAAY says on Oct 16, 2007, 16:27:

Actually.......it would'nt be alltogether a bad thing if someone spent their time showing ONLY the good things ....................it might serve to balance out all the paranoid and hyped up crap that some people insist on spewing here........

.........Its useless to argue with ignorance

Man Tequila says on Oct 16, 2007, 16:35:

Well, it was interesting enough that I watched the whole thing.

But I think I have to agree with Medellin Traveler. Much of it seemed to be saying what a man Ross Kemp was to go to Barrio Popular and the 8th arrondisement. He talked to some low-level gang members, who told him little. He then confirmed that he felt everyone "was holding back" and went on to confirm that the biases and preconceptions he had before these interviews had not changed. The focus was certainly on Ross Kemp; not the causes, solutions or backgrounds. Asking people leading and sensationalist questions is not in itself good film making, and this was far from impartial. I do hope the Mothers of Candelaria got some relief knowing some of their heartfelt and tragic stories would reach an international audience. I also hope Mr. Kemp's request for a discussion with one of these brave activists was not the cause of her funeral the next day. Ultimately, I think the MTs here are in agreement and these shows are ultimately about a self-serving Mr. Kemp.

gringolondinense says on Oct 17, 2007, 00:54:

Ross Kemp has also got a book out on gangs. Its looks crap though.

kat1 (Moderator) says on Oct 17, 2007, 04:22:

I agree RAAAY

BTW, The "top paramilitary guy" he interviewed and the end looks more like an scary teenager.. i think he was another sicario posing as one of the Tops guys.

I think it wouldn't any harm showing the other side of Colombia we have seen enough of this kind of films and they are getting boring and repetitive

gringolondinense says on Oct 17, 2007, 05:13:

Well...ross kemp has made a living acting as a hard man. This series is just an extension of his hard man persona lol.

kat1 (Moderator) says on Oct 17, 2007, 05:23:

it will scare gringos, good for you, but not for others, we want tourist in Colombia, "Good tourist" we want to show Colombia with a different angle, this videos not only scare people but it's stereotypes us as killers, drug addict, etc

My son told me when one his friends asked him what he was doing in that " dangerous country"
another one replied after seeing the film " well that was his summer job" well i don't find that funny.

kat1 (Moderator) says on Oct 17, 2007, 05:28:

I think the right kind of tourist can help Colombia, look at Rome, London even Buenos Aires, we have to avoid is the Sex tourism!! that is the one we don't want in Colombia.

they can s*** burras.

Unfortunately Cartagena is heading that way!!!

gringolondinense says on Oct 17, 2007, 05:28:

Good old ross did cover other countries too..Brazil, america and ngland if i remember rightly.

Miguel says on Oct 17, 2007, 08:43:

Hell, I watched this Ross dude's "report" and was laughing my ass off. He is about as believable as a loan shark. If I knew more about English media, I would say he is hardly credible.

IMHO, if you want a straight shot about reality and sicarios, check out the documental "LA SIERRA".

And please...remember that only us estadounidenses reserve the right to be called "gringos".

Desi taught me that almost four years ago on PBH/PBSH.

Miguel says on Oct 17, 2007, 08:46:

Double post created by another flaw in the PBH upgrade...I made my post and then saw it with all the HTML codes.

Miguel says on Oct 17, 2007, 09:00:

Miguel says on Oct 17, 2007, 09:12:

GIB, I simply stated that on the north coast, only people from the USA are called gringos and that elmo's family would afford you the highest hospitality because you are indeed a gringo. Limeys get second rate service.

engage brain before opening mouth

Miguel says on Oct 17, 2007, 09:25:

kat1 and gringoinbogota:

I have no clue as to the double posts, but I assume it's a problem associated with whatever Peter is doing to upgrade PBH. And GIB, your comment about the north coast is way off base.

kat1 (Moderator) says on Oct 17, 2007, 09:31:

GIB wrote "well the north coast is not Colombia and they will be the first to set you straight on that one." what do you mean?

Miguel sorry but maybe Elmo's family is different but my family and many of my costeño friends call my husband Gringo..

Mr. Hollywood says on Oct 17, 2007, 10:21:

GIB, if you really want Colombia without the foreign "tourons" there's still about 99% of the country open to you. Pretty much everything besides San Andres, Cartagena and a tiny section of Bogota.

I think I've probably said it before, but the most obnoxious tourists I've seen in Colombia were always domestic ones.

Tinto (Moderator) says on Oct 17, 2007, 10:28:

Remember this guy?

http://www.strikingviking.net/

Someone once commented that his book was nothing but a bunch of pictures of his f'in motorcyle. No context, no people, no landmarks - just endless pictures of his f'in motorcyle on the shoulder of a non-descript dirt road. Haha.
