Rosario Tijeras DVD . . . and WAR !! ;)

LOL, now that I have your attention, just a few op-ed sentences about my thoughts on this semi-crisis.

The current situation is a reflection of the sense of distrust/dislike that Latinos from different nationalities have for each other. Latinos like to say how our wonderful language and cultural heritage unifies us all, but too often there are cliquish attitudes when it comes to what country so and so is from, a dirty little secret if you will.

This site will of course promote the Colombian viewpoint, but let's try to get into the heads of the average Juan, Ecuadorian or Venezuelan.

They probably don't like how Colombia's internal problems spill over across their borders. I'll also bet there's quite a bit of resentment that Tio Sam is such a close friend and gives them so much support. They might even feel a bit threatened by that.

Finally, many believe that the moneyed elite of Colombia "la oligarchia" get to have it both ways. Indirectly benefitting from the narco-traffic, while also getting plata from the gringo through more official channels.

Of course, we know it's a wee bit more complicated than that but there's definitely some anti-Colombian feelings out there. . .

So putting aside whatever ties these present govts. have with the FARC, Correa&Chavez are definitely milking this issue to score political points amongst their constituents. To the locals, they look great for "standing tough" to Uribe.

Now on to more important matters. . . ;)

Just had a chance to skim through the U.S. release of the Rosario Tijeras DVD and was disappointed. I will check more carefully tonight but it looks like a steamy sex scene was excised in its entirety in order for this to get an R rating. The sad part is that the entire scene framing it, which helped develop the love triangle aspect of the story, was taken out as well; without that entire scene, some parts of the movie make less sense. Weird.

There's also a long interview with the director but it's all in Spanish with no subtitles for that part, not a problem for me but it could be for others.
