I think they are all about the same. You may have your choice of the smaller boats...nice bumpy ride for about 1 1/2 hours or the larger single vessel that is quite a bit slower but much smoother. ( also can be very crowded). The trip involves a stop at a beach bar/restaurant and a tour of the Marine park which can be interesting if you are so inclined. They will split groups that would prefer to go diving versus the marine park.

The terminal is just before the entrance to to Centro and if you go... ask for Ingrid. She was an excellent tour guide and also spoke English!

My hotel arranged a trip, on one of the high speed boats, and the tourguide picked me up at the hotel in a taxi, and she paid all the fees.

I have not been to Islas Rosario but I hear they are nice BUT my impression from photos I have seen and what I have read I think San Andres and Providencia are better but if you find yourself in Cartagena why not make a trip?

That's a bit more than a 45 minute boat trip though, jaja.

I enjoyed the day, and also a side trip to aquaria.

We went to the Islas in December last. Paid (as far as I remember) 120k for 2 tickets. The trip out (2 tiered boat) was pretty pleasant, 1 1/2 to 2 hours. The island itself was nothing spectacular, but the value for 120k was reasonable enough. Two things to note however...

1. After buying the tickets the day before I was furious to learn that when we arrived at the harbour we had to 9,500 COP each just to get on the harbour. (No excuse for this, a tourist trap plain and simple!)

2. When coming back in the evening, the water gets very choppy!! and the skipper put the boot down to make it back to the harbour before 6, so the pleasant cruise in the morning is a different beast on the way back!! (wrap up well!!)

I was on a fast boat, and I think it only took, maybe, 45 minutes to Isla Grande. All was prepaid before I left, and was perhaps $40-50 (including lunch), but I'm not quite so sure now.

We returned about 5pm, and the waters were still, but that was in October.

I was there 5 days Tom, and I don't think it rained at all.
