Romanticise Colombians Today

when I say some thing true about Colombians which is negative everyone comes to protect colombians. Could people tell me is this site only for positive statements about colombians. If it is then it is pathetic. There is so much romanticising Colombians on here that it makes me laugh. Can people tell me am I allowed to make genuine statements about what I see or not

I've been on here for two days and quite frankly as a foriegner who has lived here for over 10 years...I find it shocking some of the lack of reality here.

A break from the bad news I think we all know the faults and problems of Colombia, we hear about them all the time on the news, etc. It is a hard and painful reality. That is why this site is so attractive. Because in it we share the positive aspects of Colombia, our romantic experiences, great travel tips, advice, funny stories and dreams. Of course, constructive criticism and useful information about safety, etc. are always welcome. I don't think that talking about the greatness of the people of Colombia, the family values, traditions, beautiful landscape and rich history is romanticizing. We are just trying to focus on the positive for a change.

WAY TO GO MARIANGELA!! "when I say some thing true about Colombians which is negative everyone comes to protect colombians. "

There is nothing wrong with saying something that is true and negative, but when you ONLY come to say 'negative truths', you start to come off as a bigot! Don't you have anything positive to say about colombians?

Sure you can... as long as you are seeing things where nobody is getting hurt.

Saying that Colombians have poor hygiene is not a genuine statement, it's just stupid.

hey, mate.... gotta admit, you were a bit over the line on the hygene issue, enough so that i gave it a writing, but got kicked off for the time problems in posts. after that i wasn't gonna re-write it. if you've posted enough you know what i'm talking about...real pain in the ass.

but colombians, their food, eating habits and hygene...common, bro, gimme a break. and especially the colombians. did you see anybody dying in clombia from the food? did you see any obese folks...there's hardly any fat ones, and those, compared to some of the blimps we have here in the states, they look skinny.

no, common, the foods great in colombia. the poor, the rural, really can't affort meat--or much of it--in their diets. so what they have is small portions, and that, not always frequently. they eat vegies, fruits, legumes and tubors. their national soup, sancocho, although having meat, has, relatively speaking, little. it's spices, vegies, tubors, etc. and is it delicious! from the street vendors to the private homes, both rich and poor, it's a great, nourishing meal. try some. you'll like it.

hygene, now, that's so personal...hell we just had an old friend of mine from switzerland, visiting us for a couple of weeks. lives near zurich. he only bathed twice while here...14 days. he didn't smell at all, was clean, what more can i say. me, i bathe almost every day. rarely, there is an exception. but bathing daily in colombia, is the rule, at least around my family and my other colombian associates, over the past 15-16 years. maybe in the big city, bogota, they don't bathe frequently to blend in with the ambient smell of the city. while in bogota, never bothered me, but i never chose to hang in bogota over my years in colombia. for me it's medellin and there abouts.

well the food. i could tell a few stories about the handling of meat that were indeed a bit bizarre, but i saw the colombians eating it and i never saw one sick or dying from it. so if it was working for them, it would damn sure work for me.

pizza, well it's not italy, but then again, the best pizza ive ever had wasn't from italy....#1) Marseilles, fr.; #2) miami beach, fl.; and #3) was the pizza shop in gualanday in llano grande. on the last one, not totally because it tastes great, but the setting, the service, the ambience, the other folks eating there, the fireplace and 'totally cool' environment of gualanday...like no other place in colombia (highly recommended).

so, mate, i've eaten you folks food on many occassiions. i worked about 13 yrs in the middle east and stayed in london maybe 30 times.

nice folks, but the food, although edible and nourishing, was not such that i returned home and told mom. nope, just food. nothing more. BUT! i'm not putting it down.

so, i hope you go back to colombia and SEE not just look. get to know her real charms. get outta bogota and go to llano grande. you'll see the real colombia and ALL that that contains and come away in love and wanting more. trust me. your life will change for the better and you, too, will have 'war stories and love stories' to post here on the site.

peace, bro.

Is not romatiscism
We are not protecting Colombia is just that the comment you said is not true. Colombia is an industrial country that has wonderful products, ones with not as much quality as others (like everywhere), you should choose where do you eat and what you buy.

What I was not agreed about is that just because you did not like something that you saw or eat, you stared saying COLOMBIA ... you should write where you eat and where you were when ...., etc but not say COLOMBIA, THIS OR COLOMBIA THAT...

Im sorry for my English, Im still performing it.

Londonmale is a wonderful new addition to Los Trolls. He likes to make a provocative post, usually something idiotic, and then sits back and watches the responses. Notice how he does not post in the threads that he starts. Nice trolling style dude!

It is Normal!!! When you say something bad about any country, of course someone will jump of their seat and defend their country....

That is Patriotism....

Its like an american saying USA is the best country in the world when we all know itsn't true....

there are no perfect countries....only people proud of their roots....

Change you name.. You are beginning to make me feel ashamed of my race, you and 10 bloody goldfish. Sorry, but if you insist in rubbishing everything, what do you expect? are you just trying to wind everyone up? If you don't like it, GO, it is so easy. If nothing is to you liking, why are you even on the site in the first place?

Stop being so petty. Live and let live.

EVERYONE! Listen to UtopiaCowboy, he's absolutely right about londonmale being a troll, or at least he comes across as one.
I'd be more than willing to discuss some of the points he makes, but his lack of interest in the matter (i.e. never posting in his own threads) makes it hard for me to take him seriously.
BTW, it will be hard to find a Colombian that it's not extremely patriotic, so sure, we will try and refute your statements, some more rationally than others.

I should not be criticised for my indiscretions... because if you can keep your head when I am losing mine.....you just do not understand the seriousness and futility of the situation.
