A troubled young man wanders the streets of Medellin as he mourns the death of his mother. He spends his days hanging out in one of the many poor hillside barrios in Medellin, dreaming about starting a punk band. Several neighborhood teenagers recruit him to join them in a few robberies to make some quick spending cash. Torn between the pain of his mother, he yearns to understand the madness surrounding life and death in the barrio. Overall, a sad reality of life in Medellin, Colombia, but not without a glimmer of hope. - M.T.

Several of the young non-actors in the movie were murdered before they could reach 20 years of age.
I truly enjoyed watching this movie. It reminded me so much of the barrios I visit in Medellin, especially the paisas who inhabit those poorer barrios up in them hills. The language is very distinct, what you would here in many of those lower-class barrios.

I Left My Heart In Medellin. My home away from home.
Watching the movie put a smile on my face as I thought back to the day I was walking up one of the many steep steps in the hillside barrios. As I was was walking up the steps by myself to visit friends, I heard Metallica's Master Of Puppets blaring out of one of the homes up on the hills. It was AWESOME listening to one of the greatest rock-n-roll bands in the U.S. cranking from one of them homes.

And the brick work appears to be better than the typical block work in Panama. And in reference to the dialect, I just met a paisa in Cartagena that spoke with what must be the accent yur talkin about. Completely different! And here in Turbo without paying the utmost attention cant understand a damn word theyre saying, most of em. Funny how it goes.......thanx for the film tip. Will look for it.

dwmte7 says on Jun 14, 2008, 07:35: we used to have his basurera who had a cart (?) made up of a plank (s) about 3 1/2 ft wide, maybe 4' long. and the axels were two 2 X 4's with bearings for wheels on the ends. she would drag this sledge around poblado and beg for trash/food/whatever. she had a little baby that accompanied her. she particularly liked coming to our house, as it was quite private, and my wife would organize water and buckets, soap, towels, etc. for her and her baby to bathe. then the dama de casa would fix her breakfast and give her some eats for the road. she frequented us for 2-3 years. became like a member of the family...sortof. dwmte 0 funny, 0 helpful. |
