Rock 'n' Roll in Colombia...

How many rock bands from France or Greece do you hear about?

Mind you, it might have something to do with marketing, airplay etc. I've spent time in Russia and some of the rock music there is incredibly creative, visceral and well-executed. But you don't hear it over here.

Soda Estereo, Aterciopelados, and Maná are all great. So is Rammstein and they sing in German. I think they don't get more airplay because of close-minded fools who refuse to listen to anything that's not in english.

It pretty hard for rock bands to get support here cos the vast majority doesn't listen to rock music and even consideres it 'musica metalica - satanica', that's what happened to me in school and that wasn't even 10 years ago. Good list Simon, but I only like The beatles after they tried acid, and U2 is pop really. I love Mercury's voice, one of the greatest eva.

I went to Mango's in Medellin once. Music is latin music, i wish they played some rock too but nope. Nice girls but you really need to dance good, everybody does there. Soooo, I'm still looking for a place or a partner to learn how to dance salsa with. any suggestions?

Prog rock and the Beatles are still the best... Yes (from The Yes album to Relayer being their prime, peaking at CTTE), Genesis up to Duke, King Crimson, Waters Floyd, ELP, etc... throw in some fusion, The weather report, Return to Forever, Mahavishnu, etc...

Now I know a few people in Colombia who appreciate at least the prog side of things.

And aren't Soda Stereo the biggest band in Latin America? No one knows about them in Canada, it's sorta wierd.
