Robbery in Cali Lastnight $$

Talked to my Novia tonight. Seems her and her cousin went to some ATM ovr by Versailles,(Sexta Ave) area lastnight. Around 10:00. Withdrew $156.00 from the ATM. Seems this car with 4 dudes, & a chick followed them home. (Seems like a long way to follow them). Now they live in Barrio Alto Guadelupe. When they pulled up to their gate. To open the fence pen to drive the car in. 2 dudes went to each window. Had their hands in their coat like they had a gun. Demanded they turn over their purses. Got her cousin for her Jewelry too. Two rings & a necklace. My novia said she had the ATM card in her back pocket. So they did'nt get that. They got the car keys tho. Both of them lost their cedula's & drivers license. Her cousin is a lawyer. Works for the Criminal Dept/Da's office. They got the license number. Called it in to the Police. Need to go Monday & file an official report. Like I told her she should'nt be going getting money at night time. Told her she needed to do it on her lunch break from studies. She knows she is very Lucky. Her Aunt has to get the locks changed and the alarm redone. But she still has her daughter. No house keys on the chain. Just thought I'd let people know. Don't get money late at night. And watch ya Chit !!!

The Atm was outside the Citibank, Av 5N #23, Versales, Cali. She said the car they were in was an old Mazda.

Thanks for the post...evening time definitely, but same to be street wise during the day. Had a neighbor that withdrew funds from a local bank in Pereira. Had thought a call was made and as the neighbor arrived home, the home burglary took place. Of course something like that cannot one cannot prevent. Your novia did everything right by not going solo, however......sorry for the event.

Buongone...first mistake was to go so late at night. Second mistake is the area is empty. Third mistake is not going to Citibank in Jardin Plaza.

Thanks for the info. Mi novia and I almost went there Saturday evening but had second thoughts and went to Chipichape instead.

I know I will catch hell for this. But this is a very strange robbery. The guys robbed her as she was going into the gate? No guard? The robbers would not know that there was no guards opening the gate. They may drug you and follow you home but typically they rob you at the ATM or on the way. The other thing is that the robbers would be in a car. That is strange. They other thing is that she had her ATM in her back pocket? She was setting on it? Not afraid of breaking it?

How convenient it did not get robbed so I guess she is free to receive more money????? Tell me it is not so to renew my faith in Colombiana/gringo relations.........

One question and your answer will determine whether I beleive she was actually robbed or was not.

Did you wire her the money that got robbed?

Your Answer;

Yes - It is all bullshit and she is the robber.

No - It is one of the strangest robberies I have heard of in Colombia.

David your smarty pants insinuation aside I will comment because I bet you have been taken or are being taken. I bet anyone beleiving this story without number one or two answered is probably getting taken...... For sure those questions need to be asked. None of my business really but since it was posted on a public site....

They took the keys but not the car? bla bla bla

I have never been burned by a woman in Colombia, a few have tried, none have succeeded. I just know how to smell a rat. With this story I smell a rat.

1. Lets see if he pipes up as to who's money was stolen?

2. Does she ask him for more money?

I am not calling a rat I am just saying I smell one and brother when you smell it along with number one or number two in Colombia you got yourself a rat.

But never mind me I am just trying to help. No Colombian woman has ever taken anything from me more than my heart. ;) A few have tried but I cut that cancer out of my life damed quick. Unlike gringos I read about where she takes them for everything........

Some Colombain woman advice for you.

A good Colombian woman is good all the way through. A bad one she may only show you the tip of the iceburg and so the other 90% of the bad is hidden. You better frickin change course brother at the sign of the tip. Steer well clear. The Titanic was not taken down by what was above the surface but what was below the surface. Same with women here. Hell people in general.

Not as bad as a member we had here who's "novia" got robbed leaving western union after he sent her money to pay her 1,000,000 peso water bill..jajajajajaja im not kidding.. Glad to see that they are no longer together.

Yes I remember those stories more than one. The other guy who resent the money twice to be robbed twice. That was a good one.

This is big business here and gringos fall for this all the time and so it is why I am making note of it. I hope he has the balls to asnwer those two questions honestly. If he does then he will find this post useful. If not then well he will get taken.

Robbers do not follow you home to your gate to rob you. I have seen a lot of things here in my time here and beleive me they would have pulled in front of them blocked them, got out and fired a few shots in the air if necessary and then rob them. I saw waoman kidnapped just that way which btw would be the only reason to bring a car to a robbery.

The last thing they do is follow you all the way home to your gate and rob you there. Gaurds here have guns and they know it. A shootout is not what they want. But who knows? Rarely rarely ever is a car used either. A motorcycle OK but a car in a robbery like this? Won't say never but damn rare.

I am being cynical just as any Colombian male would be trust me. Maybe not as much. But gringos for some reason are so damned trusting, it is easy pickins.

Million...in San Joaquin, a barrio in the Sur of Cali, an actor was killed in the entrance to the gate of the apartment complex last fall. He was driving his car along with his wife and his mother. The guards shot at the thieves, who were in a moto. They took 7 million pesos. They were recently arrested.

This sounds like a hit to me and not a robbery, those do happen but bringing a big clumbsy car to the front of the gate? I don't think so man.

But why did they not ask for the ATM card since they knew she used it at the ATM? Hmmm everything else but that huh? Well ATM cards are harder to replace and she won't be able to take anymore gringo money out for a while. Cant have that..........

Unfortunately being followed and then have the robbery at the gates of a Unidad, happens all too often here in Cali,my reasons, 1 the area where the ATM was ,is not police void and 2 they prefer to take the risk when the opportunity presents itself, if at the end of a journey so be it. I know of many robberies of this type, some with success ,some with a shoot out, of course these scumbags are not hoping for gated security but this does not seem to concern them either. PCL is quite right with his method of security, nothing is guarantee but there is a lot you can help yourself with

I probably should not have said "never follow you home." Never say never but guys listen this is SO COMMON a scam these girls are playing on gringos that you have got to be careful. I don't beleive robbers follow you home from the ATM that much. They may go to the trouble from a tip at the bank that you have like this guy did 7 million but for a couple hundred it is too risky. Easier to stop you anywhere or at the machine.

But Cali is the fricken wild west. You won't catch me living there again. No way!

No greg they take exactly that amount because it is easy to get it from a gringo. The thing is they have 10 other gringos on the line doing the same thing.

I hope this is not the case. But this post is an opportunity to learn something. Learn about getting robed? jaja NO. Because there is only so much you can do to avoid that and living in Cali is not one of them....

I want to be wrong! Belvei me I do but please guys listen to me I have lived here a long time and you can only trust the women here that pass these kind of questions. So listen and learn and stop trusting so blindly everything. It is not the Colombian way it is the American way and your gettin ate alive here! It was USD $156.00 The security gate you are all talking about is a cyclone cage in front of her aunts house. You get out to unlock the gate, then drive the car in the Cycloned off area. It is like a cage around the front of her house. There is no guards. And thing is she knows that I don't go for these kinds of Ripoffs. It's gone, it's on her. There is a little Cantina next door to her Aunts apartments. For some reason awhile ago some car pulls up. Out jumps some dude with a machine gun. Blows off a few burps. Mow's down this dude. Next thing ya know. Turns out they got the wrong guy. The real owner fled town as soon as he could. Lock, stock and barrel. Pronto! Oh and by the way. She don't have a Colombiano. And she don't drink. She go's to school 6 1/2 days a week. Hence going to get the money at late night. She don't get home from school till 7:30 at night at the earliest. The money was sent last week. She just takes out small amounts at a time. She said the ATM by where she lives were shut down about a month ago. It's up from the park in Cali. (I want to say Parque Elephante) Maybe I'm wrong. With this Metro line building there has been a lot of traffic in her neighborhood lately. I know for a fact, it used to be estrado 5. But maybe 4 blocks away is 2-3. Thanks for the different opinions. I'll take them for what they are worth !!! Seeming her cousin works for the DA's office. I'll just have to wait for more info on this one. $156 USD. Come on??Chao

Another little story about the area. This happened last year. Some dude that went to her school went to the bank with his mother. They draw out about 3K USD. Somewhere there was a tip. They follow these 2 home. They do a home robbery. Shoot and kill the kid. Wound his father. They are doing time in Prison. Lucky they did'nt have a hit put on them. Might have been better!! Sorry I have not been camped out on the internet to make a response. ;) So let me do so now. Yes I suppose robberies happen in front of your house for 3 million yea I can see that but you know what? How you get 3 million out of a teller machine? Oh well never mind the details. Getting set up at the bank by the teller for a large withdrawel in Bogota they hit you up on the street or down the street. Cali is a bit different I suppose as more houses but there are always guards and robbers that follow you home don't know if you live in an apartment with 40 guards or house with chicken wire fense. Why typically they get you before that but of course there are exceptions. OK? So for every 1,000 robberies that happen 5 happen in front of your house. jaja I stand corrected. Oh and getting shot in front of your house is different than robbed. Sicarios wait for you to return home and then do you, this is common.

I am glad to hear that you are not sending money to her! JC when are people gonna wake the f up? In Colombia a good woman is not going to take shit from anyone and that includes your money. For anything. I am speaking in general terms here because yes I don't know this person. But I do know Colombians and clearly this guy does not.

SOME GIRLS BECOME PROSTITUTES TO GET THROUGH SCHOOL OTHER GIRLS FIND A SERIES OF GRINGOS TO SEND MONEY. Hope this is not the case here but does not every gringo DOING IT think that he is the exception?

Look I have been here as a gringo longer than any of you and so maybe I learned something. What I learned is that Colombian women learn at a very young age how to survive, life is hard here and Colombian men know this and contribute to it and get what they want off the women. GOOD WOMEN DO NOT WANT TO BE ASSOCIATED OR CONFUSED WITH THIS TYPE SO THEY WILL NEVER FOKIN TAKE YOUR MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!GOT THAT SH^T?

A more materialistic woman I have never met. But let me tell you they hide that very well, your perception of them is different because they are FOKIN MASTERS in the player game and will play you so good you won't know what happened. Seen it happen more than once and for big money in the end. For everything in the end. They ahve never got me and that is because of one simple rule. I know what a good woman is. Thanks Claudia for that. Most gringos who have their first experience here with a woman meet her on the internet. Good luck wth that and then they are exposed to her and her types for a short time. Kep in the dark an then wonder what happened when the lights come on. SURPRISE!

Ever wonder why men here seem to all have several girlfriends and tend to treat their women like crap? Survival man, pure survival. A woman your sending money to is a Colombian woman that does not respect you. You have got to play them, you have got to be the macho ahole that does not give a crap and then they will swoop on you. Wiring money? If she is your wife OK if she is your girlfriend you are being played and I don't care how well you think you know her...you really don't know sh$t.

Enough lecturing sorry about that. Agree with me or dissagree with me. I am far from perfect but do have an opini0on on this. Problem is the direct connect between a mans Penis and his sense of dissernmant...one can only be working at a time.

Can I tell you I have nothing ventured in this. I don't own an internet marriage agency, I don't own a hotel. So when I tell you about some of the women here playing you, I hope you beleive me. The only thing I have in this is that I am a very gringo looking guy and everytime one of you are played it makes it harder for those who are street smart and know how it is.

Oh and Cali and Medellin are known to be the players paradise. Bogota not as much.

So this is for you! It has a happy ending, good luck getting that ending on the internet with a Colombiana! It is in a language some of you will understand more than others. :)

My cunado wanted a xbox 360 which I gladly bought over for him.. I told my ex that NOTHING goes out of one hand without something coming in the other" and I even had the Gamestop receipt to return that shit if I had to.. I swear to god I would bring that shit back.. He came up with the money.

"PAY ATTENTION! I wonder if that person knows that when we push the FUNNY button, its because we are reading something outrageous, trying to be cynical, derogatory, sarcastic and/or obnoxious!"

going south,

Dads family is from Manizales, he grew up in New Orleans(went to De La Salle) then Nicholls State in Thibodaux, then lived in Houma(where he met my ma) then lived in Lafayette for a good long time before returning to Colombia. He is pretty much a coon ass as well. How many people in Colombia do you know that has a cd with Opelousas Sostan in his car?

Plus, actually the Blackberry with all it's accessories was 35 bucks refurbed, and I am sure she will pay me for it. This young lady would not accept a gift.

Of course there are exceptions, but as a general rule oneforyoumillion is quite right, the average gringo has no idea how his special novia is playing him, especially by internet. It's a fact everyone should except.

Heck, I know a Colombiana who was playing a guy from Spain. They never met but the guy was sending her money every week, bought her a computer, and who knows what else. Meanwhile, she had at least 2 Colombianos tending to her needs.
