Rio Javari from Leticia 5 days cost ??

I plan to explore Amazon in Rio Javari region from Leticia, Colombia. I inquired with tour operators and also some lodges.

for 5 days - one tour operator (highly recommended by most guide books) quoted USD 745. With another lodge based (+ activities) quoted USD 850 and another lodge approx USD 900.
this includes transportation from leticia to lodge along javari, hiking/canoeing activities, indigenous community visit, canopying etc.

is that reasonable ? i thot it came around USD 400 for 5 days. i am solo traveler.

pls help.

I went to Leticia in April last year and went on a five day trip with a phantastic tour guide called Elvis Cuevas (elcuma at yahoo.com), whom I can only recommend. He is knowledgable, reliable and he works together with local people, thereby letting them have their share of the tourist business. He was recommended to me by colleagues of mine who regularly visit the Amazon to do anthropological work. I do not actually remember how much we paid, but that it was not 900 US$, of that I am sure. Elvis is very flexible with the kind of tours he offers, the only certain thing is that he will always take you off the beaten track (unless you tell him otherwise). We went to a wonderful place called Laguiño, and Elvis has a cabin on the Sacambú river in Peru. Even though it's in Peru, you won't come by a border control or need to show your passport - there is a free travelling zone stretching 60 km on both sides of the border. We constantly shuttled back and forth between Colombia, Peru and Brasil. Anyway. Just email him about the price. Not sure if he remembers me, but say hi from Barbara.

I discovered that when prices are quoted they are given for a guided tour - regardless of the number of participants.

It is always best if you can find people to split the price with. If you can I'd go to Leticia and try to meet up with other travellers intereseted in something similar and go in on it together. Los Delfines usually has some internationals.
