RETURN PLANE TICKET

Anyone know if someone else can use your return plane ticket?
My tenative plans are a trip to Cali on July 20, 2005. It would be on Continental Airlines from Atlanta to Houston and then Houston to Cali. The rates from Continental site are not logical. If you wanted to buy a one way ticket (which I am told may cause problems) it cost about $950. Round trip tickets are cheaper. Seems like the shorter the stay (at least what you tell them for a return time) the cheaper the ticket. As of today the quote for a round trip (only staying 12 days) is $768. Henceforth since I plan to stay a lot longer than that, the return trip ticket will not be used. This brings up the question: Can somebody else use it?

Don't think so.......................... A boarding pass will not be issued to anyone other than the name on the ticket and you must have photo ID. Pity the person that tries to use someone else's ticket in Colombia. Choose the less expensive option and the legal option, which is the RT ticket. You'll need proof of return or onward ticket when you clear customs in Cali anyways. Sometimes they ask, sometimes they don't! Could save you a big hassle! One way tickets are always more expensive.

Have a good trip!

ONe way tickets are most certainly not alway more expensive. This is another mysterious arena similar to immigrations. Most of the time one way tickets are indeed more expensive but there are too many factors undetermined to make such a blanket statement.

Also you are dealing with two entities. Colombian immigrations and the airlines. The airlines are on the hook to return you if you are not admitted to Colombia thus in most cases they are going to cover that cost by charging you for the return flight used or not.

An american flying into Colombia probably has better chances of getting by on a one way ticket than a colombian flying to the USA. We purchased a one way to bring my wife here after her K-3 visa was approved. It was 600.00 dollars cheaper than a round trip. It was also $250.00 more expensive than my round trip purchased well in advance.

lpdiver......... Correction noted and acknowledged. I will rephrase my statement to "one way tickets are generally more expensive".
