Retired US Military members in Colombia

Anyone retire from the military and move to Colombia? If so I would like to hear your experiences and how far the pension will get you while down there. I'm not doing this any time soon, just curious how it's working out for you. Thanks!

Just look/study the overall cost of living and if you make the switch I really wouldn't tout pension or retired military. Too much a target. Had an internet date with a Tica in San Jose and she asked me flat out if I had military pension and I backed out of answering that question immediately. None of her god-damn business one way or the other. Either it was a screen question in that it's hard or easy to tap into military pensions (Ticas well known for stealing pensions money and houses even if not maried to them).

The date was also a setup and she tryed to get me to go off with her somewhere where I felt I was going to get rolled. Bad bad juju with that one.

Good luck and keep a low profile all the time. (Hacer un perfile muy debajo todo el tiempo).

The Hedge funds have all gone wild on us!

I'm not worried about the Tica thing because I'm engaged to a girl who is a Colombia/USA citizen right now and if things work out we may move to Bucaramanga where she's from in 10 years or so. so I won't be going down there to meet chicks, just wondering if I'll be retired or still have to work while there.

sosebeejm... I live in Medellin right now and I receive 30% disability from the VA but not a pension, I also get money from my GI Bill which is a bit more then $1200 USD and live perfectly in Colombia. The thing is I have my own apartment here so I don't pay for rent, it all depends on how much you receive and if you are willing to adapt to a Colombian lifestyle and not spend every penny you have on electronics, clubs, dinner every night etc.

I suppose it depends on whether you're retiring as a grunt or as a 4 star general, too.
