I think this is a feature of the website that could be better utilized by those of us visiting or staying in the country. When I travel, I typically will read hotel and restaurant reviews if it is my first visit to a city or country.
I still need to write up a review for a restaurant in Rodadero Beach.
This is a shameless plug for a small restaurant in my neighborhood in Barranquilla that has treated us well many times and I highly recommend them. I wrote a review to let the rest of you know. http://poorbuthappy.com/colombia/travel/place/barranquilla/
Name: Donde Callo
Address: Carrera 41 Numero 66-17
Barranquilla
Phone: Domicilios - 3683788
Cell - 3135700624
This small restaurant offers typical Colombian food for the city of Barranquilla. Their specialty is arepas but my family and I have tried several of their entrees and they are all great. I have eaten the arepas and they are excellent, the salchi-papas are popular with the kids and huge...we take home the leftovers. I recently tried the Carne Asada plate with arepas and it must have included a full pound of beef...delicious!
Prices are low...$2,500 COP for a big chicken arepa to $ 8,000 COP for a huge plate of beef w/arepas and salad (Carne Asada). Most prices in that range...less for a cheese arepa, more for beef w/french fries ($9000 COP). They have mazorcas, sandwiches, hamburghesas, hot dogs (perros calientes) and chuzos. The pollo chuzo entero ($4000 COP) is fantastic...add a pollo arepa and it is a filling meal.
They seem to open early evening and they will deliver to your house...ask for a menu to keep. Definitely worth a call!

Thanks for the recommendations...I will write them down and I plan on visiting.
Also, a whole pig hanging outside of an establishment sounds like an authentic experience...no one has developed any sort of intestinal upset after visiting some of these places, right? Sounds a little more appealing than "cuy" in Ecuador.

Thanks for the review, Kurious ... will definitely add Donde Callo to the list.
Ayjaybee, good pick ... Las Vegas is probably the biggest restaurant I've ever been in, and is just around the corner from my novia's house. Bring your appetite, the portions are HUGE. $50,000-something COP fed 6 of us for lunch.

Hablo espanolo mucho bieno!

Hope this worked...Elmo, let me know if this is the same place your talking about...anyway, Las Vegas is probably my fav when Im there and its huge portions for not alot (Arroz con Camarones!!! 11,000 cop). There was also a really good grill type place, but I have no clue of the name nor where its at and since I went with my ex I probably never will. The had a picada de carne that was amazing, but probably the worst service I ever received in a restaurante...lol Normally my favorite is to eat the food they sell in the streets when Im in Barranquilla, but I'm down to try some new places as long as the price is right.

Missed you, P/C/L...in my previous life I did know someone like who you describe...I was so surprised the username was available.
I personally avoid eating rodents (cuy), especially pets, the children also have issues with eating pets...they balk whenever I try to cook them for dinner.

I gotcha Kurious, but who decides which animal is a pet and what is considered food.. Just because we have domesticated horses, dogs and guinea pigs doesn't mean they aren't eaten regularly and considered delicacies in other lands.. cheers, good to have you back!

Well, maybe in other places they eat many different things...in that regard I am only moderately adventurous...unless my survival depends on it, there are certain (many) things that I am not willing to try.
Thanks...good to be here. I want to try that Las Vegas place.

All of the above mentioned places that serve chicharron are excellent; add to that list Los Amigos de la 38 in el barrio Las Delicias, pero Narcobollo es lo mejor.
