The only real difference between A Renista and the Pension (Pensionado) visa is that pension visa funds must come from a government or business established pension program. The Rentista requires you receive an income from sources outside of Colombia that is verifiable, occurs monthly and is permanent. It is somewhere between 10/12 time the monthly minimum wage in Colombia

The law is here: http://www.dafp.gov.co/leyes/D2371_96.HTM

I got 3 Rentista VISAS without showing any monthly income. I did show that I had the minimum monthly income times 12 in a mutual fund account.

You have to get the first Rentista VISA outside of Colombia unless you have a different VISA which is current.

I wound up getting all three at the Chicago Consulate. I downloaded the application form, and filled out 2 originals. Then I had my mutual fund company write a letter to me in Spanish giving the value of a certain account on a certain date. Then I prepared a statement in Spanish that attested to the fact that this was the original letter. I had a Spanish-speaking notary notarize my signature. Then I got the State of Wis. Secretary of State's office to apostile the notary. I called the Chicago Consulate for an appointment and showed up with all the stuff plus 3 or 4 passport photos. They did the VISA on the spot and pasted it into my passport.
