Renting a Space for a Party in Bogota

I want to throw a party, but my Apartment, well, yeah, a little small. I want to rent some sort of space that can fit 50-75 people, just for a night. Better if it is in the North, but not a necessity. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Tlop

I did this with some friends last year.

We rented one of the floors of "El Edificio", which is located at the Avenida Jimenez #8-40... some of you may be familiar with the building, it is at the tip of an irregularly shaped block which ends like a triangle pointing to the mountains. The view is incredible (Av Jimenez, Eje Ambiental, City TV, Banco de la Republica, Cerros) and makes for a really trendy/alternative loft-style party atmoshpere. Very close to the Museo de Oro transmilenio station. I think we were 50+ people and the space was enough for some 20 or 30 more people, I remember we charged 15.000 cop per person and broke even around the 50th person, so that would give us a cost of about 750.000 cop for the rental of the place AND the sound system for a night. Go there during the day on a weekday when it's open for lunch, and ask for the person responsible for the building to start negotiating. The rental also included a security guy and a really cool elevator which opens up directly in the party area.

I have a few pics of the place and the view:

Thanks. Also should mention... I should have mentioned that I'm looking for a place for this Saturday (Ley seca). I just got back from El Edificio. The woman was very helpful, but wanted me to go and speak to the police first, to insure we would have no problems. Well, I went to the local station, explained it would be in a private building, invites only, no entry or drink charge, etc and basically got the "If no one calls, you are fine. If we show up, you are going to jail for 24 hours." The woman from El Edificio is going to follow up with me tonight, but it being in such a busy neighborhood, I doubt it is going to fly.

If anyone else has any other suggestions, maybe of a place a little more setback, I would be hugely appreciative. Anyone with a successful suggestion will surely get a couple of invites :).

Oh, the reason for all of this is I have a bunch of friends who will only be in Bogota for this weekend. I would really love to show them a decent time.

Thanks,

Tlop

GIB, thanks for the replies. I might be interested in the bar. However, you think he would rent it during Ley Seca? Also, granted I have no idea how much these things usually cost, but 800k seems a little steep?

Anyways, let me know.

Thanks again,

Tlop

No one called the night of our party... and we were loud! It is not a busy neighborhood at night, and actually gives the impression that very few people actually live in the area, mostly office buildings. Yes GIB, it's not as "safe" as the north (in all senses), but that's precisely what makes it interesting, original, edgy... everyone can arrive in Transmilenio with no problem, and then just call cabs to go home north. Yes, avoid walking around alone at late hours if you are a lost gringo... but actually, this IS the same neighborhood where most backpackers stay in Bogota, can't be so bad. Anyways, I just recommend it because it was a REALLY good time, but good luck whatever the choice.

Good idea! This sounds great! Maybe a bar would be a better idea. Post the info if it happens because the weekend is coming up fast and I'd love to hit a party.

Ooops I forgot that because of the elections, by law, nobody can buy alcohol anywhere in Colombia today...the whole weekend actually...

Maybe next weekend or next Thursday night?
