Renting a car in the Quindio region

I'll be visiting Bogota and then the Quindio region at the end of November. I presume the best place to rent a car will be at the airport near Armenia? I don't forsee any problems, but this is the first time I've rented a car in Colombia. Anything I should know about? Any advice? Any places cheaper that others? It does seem to be more expensive to rent a car in Colombia than in Canada....

I'm presuming it's just like renting a car from anywhere else in the world...

It is a lot more ,but you are 10 times more likely to have an accident or get it stolen here,
And check out how much deposit they want you to leave.most use your card ,but some want cash.

And take photos of the car as you get it ,so they cant say you messed it up.

It may be cheaper just to pay a driver who already has a car. Have you driven in Colombia before?

No ujay, I meant leftside. He said he doesn't "forsee any problems" and that makes me worry that he doesn't know the driving enviroment of Colombia. It sure ain't Canada!

But did he learn to drive in the UK? If so, yes, he can drive anywhere. But if he grew up in Canada....well, that's a different story.

No, but I saw it from the sidewalk. We actually crossed to get to the Arc de Triomphe....through a tunnel....hehehe. There's no way to cross that baby at atreet level!

And I know all about how well the British can drive. I visited a friend in London and we drove up to the Midlands to attend a Rally school for a day. That was an experience....I rode with the instructor, a professional rally driver, and WOW!

I can't remember the name, but it was Northeast of Nottingham at an old airbase that the "Yanks" built in World War 2. This was back in 1996, so not real clear recollecting....I'll look to see if I can find the guy's name who was the Pro. The name of the school was "Prodrive."

No, it was called "Rally Drive." My friend who was studying in London is now a professional rally driver himself. He's pretty good for an old boy from North Carolina...

At the age of 18, driver Matthew Johnson fell in love with performance rallying after watching his first rally-racing video. In 1996, at the age of 20, Johnson moved to England to study international business. While there, he also honed his driving skills at the Rally Drive school in England and the Forest Experience Rally School in Wales.

When Johnson returned to the States in 1997, his VW GTI morphed into a rally machine. In 2000, he competed in his first rally, where he made a name for himself by beating the veteran drivers in a car with much less horsepower and front-wheel drive.

In 2005, Johnson switched to a more powerful Subaru WRX, running in the PGT class. In 2006, he enjoyed consistent success, finishing in the top five overall in almost every race --including five wins in the PGT class -- en route to the 2006 Rally America National Production GT Championship.

Yes, I am from England. Grew up and drove in London. Moved to Canada when I was 27. Been here 11 years, so I'm a little rusty... :-)

Am I nervous about driving in Colombia? Hell yeah! I've seen how they drive in Cartagena and Bogota! Once out of Bogota and in Villavicencio it was ok though. I'm hoping the areas in the Quindio will be a little less crazy?! Maybe not....

Thanks for the tips

dont know how long you are in the area, but if you come into the centre of Armenia, you may need to know what days you can drive in the city.it goes by the reg numbers. if you are caught you pay a fine. let me know and I will check it out for you or I will find out where u can get the imformation, it may not apply to hire cars.
