Rental Cars In Cali Yes? No? Or Are Taxis The Best Bet?

Hello Everyone,

I was hoping to find out if anyone has rented a car in Cali and how it went? I will be there in a few months and wanted to get a car, but I remember the way people drive there and how playing chicken with oncoming traffic (people who actually have a GREEN Light) is a way of life on some of the roads there.

I also saw that Hertz rents cars there, but the rate is like $91/day. However, visiting their website yesterday, I found they are saying they don't have anything available in Cali now, only Bogota.

I am likely to just go with the Taxi, but I wouldn't have a problem with driving if I could rent a car there at a reasonable (similar to the US) style rate. It would be nice if the airport there maybe had a website with pertinent information, but I guess that is asking a bit too much.
This is the only site I found with any information about this airport:

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

SoCalDude

Rental Cars in Cali. It has been a quite a few years since I rented a car in Cali. I can't remember what the charged me for a couple of days but I remember thinking it was expensive. I rented in from Hertz located at the Intercontinental.

It doesn't really make sense to rent a car unless you are going somewhere outside the city limits. Taxis are just so cheap and you don't have to worry about the crazy traffic in Cali. The only reason I rented the car was because I was going to lago calima. Anyway if you really want to rent a car there are a couple of places just on the other side of the river from the Intercontinental. I don't know what they charge but they are not a national rental chain so they are probably a lot cheaper.

Also In some cases, renting a taxi to go outside the city limits is much cheaper than renting a car.
