renewing my visa after if has expired

My volunteer work visa ends on Monday the 18th, I have been waiting for some paperwork from the ONG and it is taking a while. I already got two salvoconductos and I don't think I can get any more. The paperwork is still not in. But they say we can get it monday morning, or aternoon. That is really cutting it super close. Especially if it is the afternoon because the relaciones exteriores office closes at 12. So I may not be able to make it on the 18th so what would happen if I try to renew it on the 19th? It is already exspired by then. Anyone know if they will require me to leave the country at that point or just pay a fine and renew it here in bogota? Also, if they do require me to leave the country, anyone know the amount they will fine me if I stay a month or so with no visa? Will getting the visa renewed be harder after it has expired? And if someone is here illegally for a long time (a year or so) and finally leaves, will they be denied reentry to the country like the States does?

oh ya, another question. Does the fine for being in the country illegally go up depending on the amount of time?

It is my understanding if the visa is expired you must start the process over and apply for a new visa. An expired visa can not be renewed. If your ONG is late you have no choice but to go to MRE and plead your case.

I believe fines are more or less according to the period of time you overstayed and are negotiable.

Not an over stay-the visa is expired
