Remember 9/11/01!

Rest in peace lives so tragically taken away on 911! Keep them in the back of your mind! Never forget!

"If you are able,
save for them a place
inside of you
and save one backward glance
when you are leaving
for the places they can
no longer go.
Be not ashamed to say
you loved them,
though you may
or may not have always.
Take what they have left
and what they have thaught you
with their dying
and keep it with your own.
And in that time
when men decide and feel safe
to call the war insane,
take one moment to embrace
those gentle heroes
you left behind "

This is not going to turn into a political debating thread, Yummygay's comment was made with sarcasm and said with malice, insinuating that the U.S invades countries for recreation. Instead we go on the counter offensive when we have been attacked or when some other country is wrongly invaded. That happens with approval of the congress (never one man) and is usually as UN led coalition of countries.

RIP to all those who lost their lives, and peace to all the family members who lost a love one. And a huge thank you to all who ran to help those in need during and after!!!

I was just waking up, saw the the first tower engulfed with smoke, then saw the second plane hit the other the tower. I thought to my self.. 'that's not real'. I honestly thought it was a preview to a movie... I was shocked and cried for a while, but had to get to work to talk to and console the students at my school.

Do you remember where you were when you heard or saw the news?

Regardless of your nationality and politics, your timing to come out with that sort of comment is a disgrace!
I am not American and I was shocked at the time; for the States probably the most obscene things to happen on their soil since Pearl Harbour.
At the time of 9/11, we were living in the UK and were enjoying a visit by one of my Colombian brother-in-laws who had been residing in the States for many years. He had popped out for a pint and we thought he had got lost or developed a strong affinity towards our British beer due to the extended period of his absence. A few hours later, oblivious to world news because we were redecorating our new house, he returned in tears; absolutely inconsolable. The look of absolute shock on the faces of the British public was incredible for many days afterwards.
We have wars but THAT! Poor victims and people and family that knew them. They will never forget and neither should we!

azunoman, i don't care that much, but please don't assume my political opinions based on a quick glance at my profile. numerous people have called me english on here, which is bizarre as it's not even my nationality.

anyway, it's not a big deal, i just wanted to say. and for the record, no, it wouldn't have made a difference if the remarks were made about the UK, e.g. the july 6th bombings a few years back-the fact is that i found the comments made towards yummyj to be completely unneccesary.

as for september 11th, i remember it well as my brother was in one of the towers the day before.

"An evil exists that threatens every man, woman and child of this great nation. We must take steps to ensure our domestic security and protect our homeland."

Who said the above quote? It was Adolf Hitler on the creation of the Gestapo. As he wrote in Mein Kampf, if you first want to control the population's attitudes towards a future enemy, then you have to show that that enemy is unworthy of human respect. It's pure marketing. The nationalistic fervour and the killing that follows it are all sales statistics. Like him or not, Hitler sure knew how to manipulate the emotions of his people.

Neither "The Iraqis" nor "The Afgahnis" nor "The Iranis" are the enemy. Neither are "The Americans". Accepting and using generalisations such as these are the first step to allowing other people to make your decisions.

I count as the enemy anyone who decides that it's OK to increase human misery by deliberately dividing people and inciting conflict. If the end result of your day at work is that people are killed then that is a pathetic way to earn a living.

The easiest way to track mass armed conflict is to FOLLOW THE MONEY. Who wins? Afgani famers? Iraqi people who now have a "democracy" but no running water? A US soldier aged 18 who signed up to protect his country and now has double leg amputations due to a road side bomb? His was one of the most haunting looks I have ever seen in my life. None of these are winners in the business of war.

"The US goes on the counter offensive if another country has been invaded". Is this always the case? Or has the US been selective about its interventions?

i don't know where to start. the bizarre responses on here the main reason i rarely post. just to articulate myself

-when i said to azunoman, "it's not a big deal", i was saying that although i'm not too concerned, for the record the nationality posted makes no difference to my political opinions and i would have criticised paisa/calena/luver's inital response whether the topic had been the london bombings...or madrid or wherever for that matter...

...why i should have to clear this up, i have no idea. maybe you should read the replies fully before responding.

secondly, although UK is in my profile as my nationality it is only because poorbuthappy does not have my country within the list.

anyway, enough of this. the consistently moronic replies on here bore me.

I had the good fortune, back about the year 1987, to have had an outrageously incredible dinner at the top of one of the towers. It was like a movie. Gold everywhere. The most attentive service/servers ever. Can't remember the food so much (as the drinks!)... jus remember trying to see the streets below, from the windows in the lobby, and trying to feel the building sway.

I saw a young 20 yr old marine today, that I've been tending to for the past 7 weeks,
who hurt his back in Iraq earlier this year,
and who's unfortunately leaving for Afganistan in a few more months.

It all runs together.

What a kid!
Everything from him, is 'yes, sir', 'very well, sir'.

He shared today, that he couldn't look people in the eye, until a few weeks ago, ...
because/since he saw the first person die, in Iraq.
An Iraqy Police.
He said, he felt guilty, that that guy had died.
WHAT PRIDE, EH!

He's the same age as my kid.
I hope like hell,...
HE COMES BACK ALIVE!

(You could learn a thing or two from him, 'cique, but I guarantee I would never want you "COVERING MY BACK"... OR HIS!)

nothin I say is to be takn for my words, but rather for the words of Sailor Jerry.

PCl, I just got back in and started reading some of the previous posts. I am a Viet Nam vet and have two sons who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan, one of whom is returning to Iraq in December. Your response to yummyj, while a bit agressive was appropriate. I suspect that he or she has never served in the military or has a true idea of what our country has done for the world. As was stated very profoundly, the only territory the US has ever asked for in the countries that it has helped was enough to bury our dead. What would this world be without the US and more Chavez's, Husseins, Achmadin.... ah screw it.
