I don't know, Greenday. In Colombia anything's possible. Maybe he keeps them in leg irons.

Disclaimer: any comment I make is inane and is not to be taken seriously, and is so patently ridiculous that no one should take it seriously, even as an insult.

radio & tv stations Im not sure what you mean by you own a band? Are you the manager or agent or band leader or what?

You need to get exposure in America.

Send you CD's and DVD's to American Latin radio and Tv stations.

I have a latin DJ friend here in the states who has his own radio show he also has a Latin Tv show. Do you want his contact information?

The Music Business First of all, did you get a receipt for the band you seem to have bought and now "own"?
I have been in the music business in the US for 30 plus years, and advise you NOT to send material to radio stations, and for sure not to TV stations. It would be a waste of your promotional dollars. What you need is an agent. Look in the trade papers and you will find many listed within.

GOOD LUCK CHICO I believe La Mega is charging something like $50k USD PER SONG PER WEEK to put the stuff on the air. And there's a waiting list for THAT! Not a short one either!! With the current climate I doubt you'd even get the chance to give it to them directly.

You need to talk to a record label. But even speaking to the receptionist for more than a few seconds can be a challenge today.

There is a book called "The Indie Bible" out here, which may or may not help you in regueton.

YO RAPS Look for a copy of DIVINO MAGAZINE...based in New York and has a ton of information on Latino alternative/reggaeton music. You can also check the trade paper RADIO AND RECORDS. You need someone who knows how to access the record companies.

I hope not If La Mega is that blatant in charging 50 grand (we're talking the radio station right?), well that's very illegal.

Payola is still illegal in this country.

Always has been The esteemed Mr Elliot Spitzer has supposedly launched an investigation into it. But it's not that blatant. It's more of a leave-a-bag-of-cocaine-in-someone's-jacket-pocket kind of thing. So it's not just even about having the money, you have to have the right connection to even get a chance in hell of paying the right guy off these days.

Miguel says on Oct 15, 2005, 21:42:

Rubiazo No "supposed" about his investigation. It's ongoing. I work for Viacom/Infinity and you would not believe the internal memos we have received regarding this practice.

Rubiazo says on Oct 15, 2005, 21:48:

HAHAHAH Memo: henceforth all payola shall be referred to as 'chicken'. PLEASE DESTROY THIS AFTER READING IT!!!!!

I won't be holding my breath for the practise to go away. It's just like 'key money' here in NYC. Or padding a Section 8 rent. When you have 10 people who want an apartment for every apartment you're gonna have things like that happen. Same with getting airplay on the radio. They only have 24 hours per day minus commercial time!

No laughing matter The money radio stations get in playola and plugola is chump change in comparison to the value and importance of keeping the FCC license. I think you are going to see a major cleaning up in this area.

kernow62 says on Oct 16, 2005, 06:11:

But what does the FCC have to do with La Mega?

FCC Rubiazo and I tangented off on Spitzer's investigation of payola in New York state.
